1st Welcome to the forum!About your pack, with the trek company i used there was 3 options.
1 carry your own pack ( up to about 20kilos)
2 share porter carries approx 1/2 your load
3 full porter who carries most of your stuff and you just carry a bladder pack( for your water) and maybe your energy food and emergency 1st aid kit!Of course the cost correlates to the amount of help you receive.
I opted for the share porter and was very pleased i did for a number of reasons. I was able to say i carried a pack over the Kokoda track, also i was able meet and get to know a fantastic man "Isacc' and help him earn a living.
I carried all my water ( 4 litres about 4kgs) all my medical kit ( incase of emergencies) my sleeping bag, air mattress, snacks and my ration pack for the day. Isacc carried my 1 man tent, spare clothes and remaining ration packs. He also carried 1/2 my trekking partners stuff including his 1 man tent.
So 1st decide what option you are taking regarding a porter and i will try to give advice about what pack would best suit.
check out ebay i sell a dvd of my walk and have 5 on auction at the moment starting at only 99cents

MemberHi Gerry, yes, welcome to our forum. With Kokoda Trekking if you hire a porter you carry your day pack which should include your water, anything you wish to eat along the way for the days walk, your camera along with other things you consider necessary that you want close by without having to stop to open your other pack on your porters back.
Your porter therefore carries everything else which by the time he adds a few things of his own, works out around the 20kg mark.
Our porters you will find will be there for you all the way in anyway they can to help you achieve your dream just like in the photograph below, quite a few just to get one woman across a log crossing!
