This week has been very hectic as with the lead up to the trekking season which commenced for us this week on the 16th April when we said goodbye to three treks that headed out from Owers' Corner. The guides decided amongst themselves that they wanted to leave one by one instead of all at once due mainly to the congestion of the track this time of year. With smaller trek numbers they can prettymuch camp anywhere. Once this was established we decided to move the first group off at 7:30 and come back and forth from Owers' Corner to Sogeri until all were on the track.

The first group on the track was Ernst Jinga – trek 715 with a group of young lads from Townsville:

    • Chris Griffin
    • Bradley Turner
    • John Mitchell
    • Harley Acree
    • David Acree

The 2nd group to head off was John Derick Eroro who has walked the track hundreds of time and still gets excited as he prepares for another walk. His trekkers are as follows:

    • Bryan
    • Dee Finch
    • Peter Bulloch
    • Stuart Bulloch
    • Charlie Tulloch
    • Richard Keys

Last but not least, was Shane Thomas with his group of trekkers who managed to commence their walk around 10am. They are as follows:

    • Shane Carle
    • Lisa Cooke
    • Elie Hammam
    • Eamon O'Connor
    • Kerri Townsend

All treks are doing well. Today I received a call from Maguli Range saying they spent the night just short of Efogi at Japs ladder area. Shane's group were at Ofi Creek. Today they are all on the move heading towards Menari. According to them, at this stage they are not experiencing too much traffic on the track and are all walking at their own pace.

    Thanks for this – Pete

Trek 747 – the crazy guys playing catch up to the other three treks that commenced their walk on the 16th are on the track! We worked out today they should reach the other group somewhere around the 1900/Myola Junction/Eora Creek area.

This morning we said goodbye to them at 8:30. They are walking from Owers Cnr to Kokoda. They have with them the KOKODA TRACK CHAMPION, Brendan Buka (time 16:34) and Cyprian Aire who came 3rd in our last race.

    Their guide is Cyprian Haera.

Update: The fast trek are spending the night at Menari. All other Anzac treks are at 1900/Myola Junction camping together. I spoke to Wallace earlier today and he was hoping to make Naduri but one trekker is finding it tough so they decided to stop at 1900. With so many trekkers and porters all at one camp it might be a fun camp tonight especially if they get the music happening.

Update 21st April: All are doing ok and getting closer to the finish line. Trek 667 is in Menari. Treks 670 & 715 are in Alola. Trek 666 is at Templeton's Crossing II.

With the two in Alola we cant help but wonder if they will spend another night on the track or once they know how close they are to Kokoda, they may want to walk off the track tomorrow into Kokoda.

    Hi Gail
When you talk to Shane, can you please pass on my love and a great big hug to Kerri T for managing to complete the track so well……what a great achievement.
    Pete

Message from Kokoda: Kerri says she misses you heaps and says to pass on a big hello! She said her feet hurt a little but she sounded so HAPPY!!!

Trek 670 have now reached Kokoda and at the present time are resting at our base Orohaven Kokoda Retreat.

Trek 667 is now at Nauro according to an earlier report this morning when Wallace called in from Menari saying they were heading that way to sleep tonight.

We have not heard from trek 747 today but with one guy struggling we can only assume they have been trying their best all day to make the expected campsite as they are to walk off the track today. These guys have taken on a huge task in such a short time but are doing ok and we expect them tonight to be at the Eora Creek area.

Trek 715 are spending the night at Hoi Village. They too have had one guy doing it tough but when Ernst spoke to me today he sounded so happy that all trekkers will walk off the track tomorrow into Kokoda.

Trek 666 phoned in tonight to say they were at Isurava Village where they will spend the night and will walk off tomorrow into Kokoda.

    Hi Gail
I now think that I may have the wrong mobile number for Wallace, used to be able to chat to him when his phone was on, been trying for a few weeks now all in vain. Please when he comes in do let him know.
    Thanks

By the way I think you may have one possibly two starters, in a year or two though, after my recent talk
