Re 91A & 91B – spoke to Nikki again last night by two way radio from Efogi. She said it had rained every day – hence the mud. She said everyone was in good spirits and seemed very happy and proud of themselves for having made it to the half way point.

It seems Gillian had a close call when a log almost broke that she was walking over which caused a bit of anxiety but our boys saved the day and all was fine. Jason had a fall and is a little bruised but is still doing it tough but he is hanging on like a true digger and pushing himself along with the rest of the group. At only 18 the youngest of our Anzac Day trekkers, he is getting one hell of an experience out there.

Nikki added the food is great and listening in the background to comments coming from trekkers they all seemed very happy.

Yesterday she said they passed a big group on the steepest hill near Kagi. 60 trekkers, porters and guides heading up and them 60+ as well heading down. She said everyone was high fiving, shaking hands, joking with each other as they passed each other. She said it was really fun as everyone was out there walking for the same purpose and it was good to see as each group paid their respects to the other.

Efogi is a big village and she was still amazed that there was no other trekking company in sight so they had it all to themselves. Kochie from Sunrise at 7 and his fellow trekkers should pass them today. This is another big group which I thought should have passed them already but seems this is yet to happen so more than likely it will be TODAY!!!

In or around this group there are a couple of other trekking companies which should pass them today. From what I have heard they will be in for a shock as if they thought 60 was a large group, wait until today. Apparently there are two groups heading their way with over 100 and another couple of smaller groups. Hence today should be interesting as they push on up to Menari where they will overnight.

    Hi Nikki, Gav and Gill,

Hope you guys are staying dry and leech free!

There was a big fat bunny on my parents lawn on Easter morning. We didn't eat it. Think he escaped from the Show.

Have been watching Sunrise to see if you get into a shot with Kochie.

    See you when you're back.

    CC.

A BIG DAY today for our trekkers in 91A & 91B…..as they ran into KOCHIE and the two politicians and other members of the Sunshine @ 7 team.

Apparently Mel, Gill, Nikki & Lisa all painted their faces with mud as they heard they were up ahead and wanted to surprise them….it worked KOCHIE was laughing it seems when he came across them.

Tonight the group is in Menari and they are sharing the village with over 300 other trekkers from all different trekking companies. Nikki said there is enough space and some are in a guesthouse and others are in their tents.

The plan is to start late tomorrow and let the others go ahead. They will then stop in Naoro tomorrow night.

No news from 112A & 112B as they are in a low spot at Templeton's Crossing and sometimes its hard to get a radio message out from there. Tonight they will stop at Eora Creek and will sleep listening to the roar of the river below or perhaps push onto Alola. Will let you all know as soon as I hear from their guide.

According to our guide in 91A & 91B Nikki George, the other day when they passed through Eora Creek there were so many tents that there was not a single space of ground left, ie tent city. She said it was an awesome sight.

The villagers on the track will be very happy I would imagine this week as much needed cash is handed over for overnight accommodation which all trekkers have to pay. After months of not receiving any money due to the wet season, they will all have HUGE smiles on their faces.

Can you imagine the revenue generated in Menari last night with over 300 trekkers staying there?????

Update 91A & 91B: all trekkers have reached NAORO where they will overnight. Tomorrow they will be up bright and early and will move down towards Ower's Corner so they come out on schedule on the morning of the 24th April.

Our food porters have finished their job of carrying the food and have left the group to head down for a pickup tomorrow as they have to head back to Kokoda on a charter going out to pick up trek 112A & 112B.

Update 112A & 112B: All trekkers have reached ISURAVA where they will spend the night. They plan on walking out tomorrow to KOKODA where they will be met by a traditional Oro Province welcome.

All trekkers arrived back safe and sound in Port Moresby and most by now would have made their way back home.

We would like to thank all our Anzac Day trekkers for choosing KOKODA TREKKING as it was much appreciated by all of us both on and off the track.

    kind regards
