    Trek Updates:

Treks 790 and Trek 859 – have both reached the half way point of Efogi where they are spending the night. Unfortunately Wayne the guide for trek 859 has taken ill with malaria. He took some medication which we always send out with our boys and my son Shane mentioned that he saw him up walking around so hopefully it is starting to work and tomorrow he will be able to walk. If not the trekkers in this group may join up with Shane's with Wayne catching up when he recovers. He is after all the 2nd fastest man ever to cross the track in 18 hours 34 minutes so no matter how far they get in front, he can always catch them.

The house in the background is where they are sleeping tonight. The traditional guesthouse has mattresses that we supplied years ago and trekkers continue to boast about them when they spend the night there.

Trek 840 have now reached 1900/Myola Junction where they are spending the night. Everyone except Brad is doing ok. As for Brad he took ill somewhere between Alola and Eora Creek and it was feared he would have to be air lifted off the track. At Eora Creek he rested and this morning wanted to continue walking. Today he also did it tough but it seems he is now feeling much better so hopefully tomorrow will be a much better day for him as he heads to the half way point of Efogi.

Trek 807 is in the Naoro area but just not 100% sure which area they are spending the night. They are heading for Isurava for Anzac Day. The trekkers in this group have walked with Getaway Trekking twice so this time round we are hoping they are enjoying the company of our Kokoda Trekking boys.

Last but not least, trek 806: This trek commenced today in Kokoda and have now reached Deniki Village where they are spending the night. One of the Jonathan's in this group of 4, struggled a little today but is still doing ok. I spoke to Brendan Buka and he said they took some stuff off him and that helped. Tomorrow they will head for Templeton's. This trek is a 'fast trek' and the group have set themselves a task of walking off the track on the 24th April in time to spend Anzac Day at Bomana War Cemetery.

    Trek Updates 20th April:

Trek 840 have now reached Efogi the half way point. Quotation from a book written by Clive Baker: Efogi Village is not the one of wartime years – the original was in the valley below the airstrip. The airstrip was built after the war and from the air can be seen to be banana-shaped. When landing, planes disappear below the hillside and land uphill, lost from sight until they come over the rise.

Treks 790 and 859 have now reached 1900/Myola Junction. Wayne has managed to recover from his Malaria bout and is with them walking along the track so must have responded to the medication he took earlier yesterday.

Trek 808: Trevor called in and said the majority of trekkers should have reached Naoro but at the time he was still at Maguli Range with Cheyne who was doing it tough. Trevor estimated they would catch the others at Naoro around 7pm tonight. Everyone is doing well.

Trek 807 have now reached Menari so all good with this trek. Tomorrow they will have a tough climb up to Brigade Hill before heading down to Efogi the half way point. Sometime during the day they will pass by our large group of 14 trekkers walking in the opposite direction.

Trek 806 – our Fast Trek are now at Templeton's area and no doubt tomorrow will be powering along on their way hoping to reach Naduri or Efogi as they only have 3 more nights left on the track.

Best wishes to Brad from Trek 840 and hang on Mate as you probably have passed the halfway point, so best to hang in there for the rest of the journey.

good luck also to Guide Wayne from 859, hope you are over your bout of sickness and you can keep going.

Finally to Jonathon on 806, the first couple of days is always the worst and you will no doubt pick up strength as you progress further. My first day back on trek 83 was the worst ever but by day 3,4 & 5 it was all good.

Catch you in Moresby on the 24th/25th

    Regards

    Waza (872)
