Looking back towards the top of the archway, I noticed two guys still adjusting their gear so snapped again:

Good News and Bad News re Trek 840. The bad news is that Wallace Lemeki who was selected by David currie to lead this trek got really sick last night and today he was forced to withdraw. The good news is that Arnold Jinga has been selected to walk in his place. The trek left Orohaven and walked up to the archway and commenced their trek around 8am this morning. Shortly before reaching the Kokoda Station area Wallace contacted me saying he felt he was too weak to continue but would try his best to walk. After discussing with David Currie, a decision was made to replace Wallace with Arnold Jinga an experienced guide from Kokoda. Wallace having prepared everything for not only his trek but for all our Anzac treks in relation to the PNG Nationals is naturally disappointed. However, the safety of our guides and porters is important to us, so Wallace has to rest and try and get better.

Good luck to Wallace and all trekkers heading South on Trek 840 and I'll see Wallace & Gail in 8 days time.

Good luck also to trekkers on the 2 Northbound treks.

Looking forward to heading out on ANZAC Day.

    regards

    Trek Updates:

Trek 790 – Guide Shane Thomas has reached Ua'Ule Creek. Shane informed me everyone is well and doing just fine.

Trek 859 – Guide Wayne Urina Tihima – is also at Ua'Ule Creek – Shane advised that Wayne's two trekkers are at least an hour ahead of them during the day but sticking together at the same campsite for the night.

Trek 840 – Wallace Lemeki – commenced their walk in Kokoda today and are presently at Isurava Village. Wallace Lemeki got really sick last night and was too weak this morning to lead this trek so it has been handed over to another of our most experienced guides, Arnold Jinga. Arnold caught up with the group at Deniki where they stopped for morning tea.

Trek 807 – Trekkers have now all touched down in Port Moresby and are presently being driven up to Sogeri Lodge to spend the night. Their guide Harold Hauro and porters arrived in from Kokoda around 9am this morning. Tomorrow morning they will be driven up to Owers' Corner to commence their trek.

    Trek Updates:

Trek 840: walked up to the Isurava Memorial this morning and spent some time there. They then passed on to Alola Village where I am assuming they stopped for morning tea. They are heading for Eora Creek to spend the night.

Trek 859: Wayne called in earlier today to say they were all ok and were heading for Agulogo to spend the night.

Imagine them today walking through the swamp from Naoro to Agulogo.

Trek 840 had its share of problems yesterday when Brad struggled on the way from Alola to Eora Creek. Several phone calls later, they managed to get him into camp at Eora Creek where he rested during the afternoon and last night.

Today he decided to continue walking and not pull out. So lets behind Brad, he is obviously determined to continue his Kokoda trek. When talking to David Currie on the phone, he said on a previous trek he was just like Brad so knew how he was feeling and he too doubted at the time he would complete his trek.

Its now 12:20 as I type this and no phone call for a chopper, so all must be good with Brad today. As for the others in the group, they are powering along it seems with no problems whatsoever.

Trek 806 had an early start today to get to the airport to catch their flight to Popondetta. They then had a 3 hour drive up to Kokoda followed by lunch at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat. A few minutes ago I spoke to one of the Jonathan Hallinan and he said they were about to put on their backpacks and head out on the track with Christopher Talanoa as their guide. Christopher was also the driver who drove them from Popondetta to Kokoda. Trekkers in this group are:

Aaron Geier; Anthony Stevens; Johathan Knight and Jonathan Hallinan.
