    Hi Fluppy,

Anywhere that sells kitchen appliances will sell them, I know Sunbeam make one. You could also try eBay – they are sometimes called vacuum food savers (make sure you also get bags). Alternativly you could ask a butcher if he/she could cryovac your goods for you for a few dollars or whatever. I have done this before – handy if you dont think you will need one again.

    Good luck, Stewart

Thanks Stewart. I was look at getting one to seal my clothes/other bits & pieces in my pack. Not just to keep them air/water tight but more so to save room in my pack for when I trek Kokoda.

    Hey Fluppy
We are using the sea to sumit bags that have a roll top that make them water proof and you can push the air out. Not sure that you would want to use a device like you are thinking cause once you open the sealed bag how are you going to reseal it? you would not want to have to take the vacuum thing with you on the treck.
    Just a thought

Karen – this is a good point. See how ditzy I can be?!

Sea To Summit bags – are these full hiking packs or day packs or both? (pic or link if you've got one would help).

    Hey Fluppy

Don't be so hard on yourself, I am not expert I have been planing for two years so have done a lot of reading, this site mainly and have spoken to others who have done the trek.

They are thick plastic bags with a fold down top that seals them. The range in size from 1 Lt to I think 20 Lt. What I am doing is placing my bedding in one of the big ones and put that in my pack and then use another smaller for First Aid and maybe another for things like head lamp and reading material. These then go into the pack and make the pack itself more buoyant if it gets dropped into the river. You can get them from paddys (www.paddypallin.com.au), budget camping (www.budgetcamping.com.au), and other camping stores.

    Hope this helps
