Walking the track in July—have a cronic right ankle( thanks to football) and a recently twisted left ankle,

Currently wearing basketball stile ankle braces with plastic inserts—hurts like hell but giving some support Q has anyone worn these type of supports or has any ideas on ankle protection I would be grateful ,

PKD I broke my ankle Feb 07 and even almost 12 months later I doubt my ankle would handle the stress I would put on it should I walk the track right now as it still gives me grief.

To put it simply, you re either walking up or down and stepping in and out of tree roots or braking to stop your fall. Do you think your ankle can stand this kind of stress?

Something else you have to keep in mind. If you have to be air lifted off due to your ankle, your insurance company will more than likely make you pay for the cost as they will say it was a pre existing problem.

As for what to wear. On my own trek my business partner suggested purchasing I wear a pair of ankle braces which can be purchased from any chemist. They fit under your foot and around the back of your ankle. There are three different sizes from memory so make sure you try them on and walk in them prior to coming to trek.

I wore mine for the first three days and then decided to trial it one day without….guess what, I soon put them back on again for the fourth day as I knew my ankle had more support with them on.

    Thanks BM,

I am reasonable confident and with the guards I think I have a 50 50 chance –doing 4 to 5 hour sessions on our highest peaks and alls well to date—I guess the issue is what the track is actually like and I suppose the only way i will really find out is go–and i will. But thanks very much for the response and advice.

My physio said the guards will start to smell after 2 or 3 days but from what I have read that will be the least of my problems—it sounds like a case of who cares just keep going!!!
