One of the biggest names in the International film industry and the man who led some very engaging roles in some of Hollywood?s biggest movies including Gladiator is looking at directing his film debut in Papua New Guinea based on a novel by John Hepworth – The Long Green Shore.
The Long Green Shore focuses on the Australian Battalion?s mission to Papua New Guinea during WWII and Crowe will take up his first role as director in the this moving story.
Crowe has already got the support from the award wining American producer Mark Johnson for the production of the film.
The Actor?s publicist in Australia said the project was of interest but not on cards in immediate future.
Producer Mark said he was not sure when they would start filming but hoped they would start next year, said reports from AAP-Auckland.
Crowe is said to direct as well as star in the film.
This will be the second time for a star in the likes of Russell Crowe to come to the shores of Papua New Guinea to be involved in a film project.
Action and James Bond star Pierce Brosnan arrived in PNG in 1995 for a leading role in the story of Robbinson Crusoe which was filmed in Megiar, Madang Province. Papua New Guinea?s dramatist William Takaku acted alongside Brosnan as the native boy in the story.
It will be a privilege to have the actor who won the best actor Oscar award in his role in Gladiator to come here in Papua New Guinea.
