MemberFor the past couple of months accommodation appears to be at a premium in Port Moresby.
So a reminder from Kokoda Trekking, just in case you have still not booked your accommodation, best to do so well in advance no matter the time of year you plan on trekking.
Various options available:
Option 1: Loloata Resort: If you decide to stay here after you have completed your trek you can completely relax; go for a swim; canoe ride; go diving or snorkelling or just hang out and read a book. They will pick you up from any designated place such as Bomana War Cemetery; a hotel; airport etc. You will be driven approximately 20 minutes out of Port Moresby where you will board a boat to be taken to Loloata Resort which is situated on an island. They have two different types of accommodation – beachside units or the more expensive airconditioned units. All meals are inclusive of the price so no hidden extras. My recommendation would be the beachside units. Do not forget to let them know you trekked with Kokoda Trekking. The present cost is: K550.00 per person per night which includes all your meals and boat transfer. For a day visit, the cost is K100.00 + K40.00 for the pickup – making a total of K140.00 per person. If you are the type of person who does not want to take the risk of moving around Port Moresby than this is the place for you.

MemberAre we supposed to book accomodation for the 10 days so our extra luggage can be left there? Or does the group leave all their belongings in a pre-organised place???
Answer: All hotels have an area where they store trekkers gear while they are out on the track so no need to book accommodation. We ask however, that you leave any valuables such as your passport/tickets/credit cards in a safe deposit box with the reception desk and only clothes etc in the bag you leave behind in storage.

MemberJust a reminder….. have you BOOKED YOUR ACCOMMODATION YET ? as we do not want you out on the street come trek time.
If you intend to stay at the Gateway Hotel our preferred hotel, please book early to avoid disappointment as they are often fully booked. They also have a sister hotel, The Ela Beach Hotel which has been recently renovated and looks quite nice.
Please do not forget to inform them, you are walking with KOKODA TREKKING (Gail Thomas) and state the code word: KOKODA
