MemberThis morning saw crowds of people trying to get on board the flight to Kokoda. Trekking companies such as Tropic Tours/Koiari Treks & Tours/Executive Excellence and the big man himself, CLIVE BAKER.
For anyone who has not heard of Clive Baker, you might like to know he published a small book on the Kokoda Trail some years back and is now here with a movie crew to make a DVD and produce an up to date book.
Russell Eroro (Kokoda Trekking Ltd) was delighted when he laid eyes on his previous boss and could not wait to race over and say hello. For me personally, I have heard his name almost daily since the time I first met Russell and I know he has the utmost respect for this him. Clive has trekked many many times before and this time round says he is older and needs 13 days to complete his trek.
Our trekkers who headed out today are made up as follows:
John Geary; Phil Copsey; Dale Redford; Garry Fair (all Victorian Policemen); Dr Fiona Whelan; Dr Suzanne Gray; Lucas Talbot (Scientist) Dr Jane Aitken

MemberOther Trek Updates Sunday 22/8/04:
With the exception of one medevac this morning out of Efogi, all other trekkers are doing ok.
We have one pick up at Ower's Corner tomorrow as per schedule. Another group of 15 including 14 Japanese heading out this coming Tuesday from Ower's Corner with Pam Christie (PNG Trekking Adventure Tours).
The following day sees our Army trekkers arriving at Ower's Corner. If that is not enough, we also have another trek arriving on Thursday, so all in all a very busy week for Russell & myself.

MemberAlso spotted at the airport this morning was Andrew Hurst and his father a qantas airline flight simulator instructor heading out to Tufi.
Andrew is the LONELY PLANET GUIDE REPORTER currently here in PNG doing research for the next edition of the Lonely Planet Guide Book on Papua New Guinea.
Andrew's deadline is November but the book is set down for release in March, 2005.
I had to pleasure of meeting up with Andrew after he arrived in PNG,however since then he had been all over the place.
He stayed in various hotels throughout Port Moresby and met up with many people in the tourism industry. Later he travelled to Lae, up to Wau/Bulolo area and down to Finschaffen/Salamaua and other areas in the Morobe District.
After a few days in Tufi, he hopes to travel down to Popondetta by boat and then up to Kokoda to meet up with our Kokoda boys and walk up to Isurava and back to Kokoda. Him and his father will then travel back down to Popondetta by PMV and fly back into Port Moresby next Friday where we will meet with him again.
