Winners 2005 Single Booth – Shell Scheme Award:

On the 8th, 9th and 10th April our staff were in attendance at the Sunday Mail Escape Expo held in Brisbane promoting Papua New Guinea and the Kokoda Trail Trekking Adventure Tours.

We were surprised yesterday 9th April to be awarded a prize for the 'Best Single Booth Award'

The booth was manned by my children:

    • Shane Thomas – Sales & Marketing
    • Nathan Thomas – Sales & Marketing
    • Mikayla Rodger – Food 4 Treks
    • Cheree Kearney – Food 4 Treks

As well as two members of our staff here in PNG, our journalist Alison Anis along with one of our Kokoda Guides, the singing Uke'ule playing Chris Suma who has not long returned from walking the Black Cat Trail and the Bulldog Trail.

A copy of the award that was presented to us. As this was the first time ever we have attended a travel show in Australia, it was indeed an honour to have been chosen the winner, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the organising committe who voted for us:

Our booth as seen here which was decorated by two coloured murals painted for us by talented guys working for R & P Signs, Badili and carried down to Australia by Alison & Chris. Sincere thanks must go to Ray the owner of R & P Signs for ensuring his staff met the deadline set down for them to produce the two murals in time for the travel show.

During the course of the weekend we asked anyone interested in winning a free FOC Kokoda Trek to put their name and details in a box provided by us.

The LUCKY WINNER IS: Gavin Trask, who hails from Brisbane.

See you SOON, Gavin, anytime you would like to join one of our treks.

Thanks also must go to Bob McDonald (McDonald's Corner Fame) for the supply of the many items shown here on our stand.

Bob produces, an Album on Kokoda which has the history at the front and empty pages at the back so that our trekkers can put their own photographs inside and keep as a family album for many years to come.

He also produces pocket lightweight diaries to supplement trekkers who walk the trail both as a keepsake and also empty pages at the back where they can record memories of what they did each day.

Bob also produces a map of the trail which can be purchased through either of our websites.

A newly added addition to his Kokoda items for sale is a Motu – English Dictionary for anyone who wants to show off and learn the language that is spoken by villages along the Kokoda Trail.

The tapa cloth seen here on the table is the tradition of the Oro Province

A Papua New Guinean visitor to our stall poses for a photograph with Chris Suma and Alison Anis.

Chris delighted the crowd when he proudly dressed traditionally for the occasion and loved every minute of it.

Whenever trekkers come in from walking the trail where Chris is a Guide, he can be seen in photographs walking, carrying his pack, singing and playing his uke'ule all the way from start to end.

His favourite song is one that goes something like….just a simple KTL boy, playing my Uke'Ule! etc etc:

Another achievement for your Company. Just shows you made the right decision when you decided to concentrate all your efforts on Kokoda Trekking.

Alison Anis and Chris Suma seen here arriving in Brisbane for the travel show with the murals that were painted here in Port Moresby.

One of our ex trekkers popped into the stall and invited Chris to go with him this afternoon and attend a rugby league match in Brisbane featuring his favourite team the BRONCOS…wont he have some stories to tell his friends and mates in Kokoda on his return:

When Alison and Chris left PNG they had a wish each. Alison wanted to go to Dreamworld….and she did…. Chris wanted to have his picture taken outside of the Suncorp Stadium to show his son…..tks to one of our ex trekkers…..he got more than he bargained for.

He managed to watch one whole match….take pics of his footy idols…..and meet up with a trekker who spoilt him rotten all afternoon….and lets not forget the pictures of the cheerleaders to show his mates back home!
