Trekkers reached Eora Creek and today will pass through Isurava Memorial area and will more than likely stop at Isurava Village for the night.

This trek has now reached Menari where they will spend the night. Tomorrow they will reach the half way point of Efogi. Everything is going ok and according to plan.

    Hi Rick

Looks like you have youth on your side so I expect your knees will be able to recover pretty quickly even if you do feel some soreness.

The Mt Donna Buang trek seems to be a good training walk for you and perhaps over Easter, you could trial a walk every day on it, to further simulate what you will have to do.

    Good luck in…[Read more]

    Hi Leanne & Nessa

That's better, you can read this one.

Congratulations on your 'Mother & Daughter' trek, I walked with my Daughter and her Fiancee last April/May and it truly was a wonderful experience to do that and then later in Moresby, visit the 9-Mile Cemetery to visit Dad's Gravesite, (despite the fact that it had been vandalised),…[Read more]

    Hi Shane

Well done on making the decision to trek the famous Kokoda Track and well done also on your Legacy work. I'm sure your efforts will result in a huge appreciation of the hardships involved, but I doubt if we modern day trekkers will ever fully appreciate the conditions which our Australian Soldiers endured during that 6 month period…[Read more]

    Hi Emma

I'm surprised that you haven't had a response as yet from fellow SA's about locations around Adelaide. Whilst I personally haven't climbed anything worthwhile in SA, my recommendation is to find a walking path 500m – 1000m, which is steep and bushy and start your training there and then as you become acclimatised to that start pushing…[Read more]

A big thank you to each and everyone of you who has contributed to this trust account as once Scott gets older it will cost a lot more to keep him in school especially when he reaches high school and may need to go away to a boarding school.

I know Wallace would appreciate what you have done along with myself.

I personally will continue to add…[Read more]

Scholarship update 15th March 2013 per email received from the Kokoda Track Foundation in Sydney.

    Hi Gail,

So far we have received $2,265 in donations for Wallace's scholarship. We have earmarked these for Scott's scholarship.

Scott is attending Kokoda Elementary School this year – there are no school fees at this level.

When I was in Kokoda I…[Read more]

Did the Warburton to Mt Donna Buang walk today. It's a challenging walk, it was 36 degrees today so that certainly contributed.

Parts are very steep, with little or no rest and yet another climb.

This was my first experience of steep long distance down hill, the pain caused in the knees was surprising. They seem to have recovered pretty well…[Read more]

Another thing I have not mentioned about Wallace. When you continually pay out wages to guides and porters, it is so gratifying when you see they put their earning to good use in order to benefit their families. In Wally's case, he had all kind of things on the go. A trade store; chicken project etc.

One post was from a PMV (Public Motor…[Read more]

    Dear Gail,

So sad to hear about Wallace, he was one of a kind. I will never forget on one trek we had run low on rations as I wanted to go into Myola and our rations were waiting at Efogi. Wallace wanted to run ahead to Efogi get the the new rations and run back to Myola.——Like bloody hell!! I was not going to let him do that, for brekky…[Read more]

Very sad news indeed. I am honoured to have had the privilege of meeting Wallace on several occasions. He was a real gentleman & true ambassador of the warmth & hospitality of PNG & the Kokoda Trail.

Thank you for the many posts on our facebook page. Some of our trekkers have sent me emails. A trekker who walked with us on two occasions, sent me the one below today as well as posting on our facebook page. I know Wallace had a lot of respect for him as he often mentioned his name.
