What were the Mammut boots you took? I have narrowed down my boot choice to Scarpa Kailash GTX and Mammut Mt Crest GTX. Have no idea which I want to keep and which I will return to the shop.

Shane called in via sat phone to say the group have now reached Menari where they are spending the night. Everyone continues to do well. Tomorrow they are heading for Naduri after they pick up their half way food at Efogi.

We only spent 1 night in our tents, the rest in huts. So a separate sleeping mate would be make life easier.

I had a 3 man dome, myself and my dad shared. It was just a cheapo thing (Kmart jobby) and ideal as it was new and hadn't had a chance to deteriorate.About half of the time we got lucky and access to 'huts'. We'd erect the inner part only to keep out mossies – perfect.

Change of plans, Shane just called up and said they were heading to Naoro where they would spend the night. Everyone continues to do well but Tamara is experiencing some knee problems and one other guy probably wishes he trained a little harder but no worries, all are going along just find. With the new KTA (Kokoda Track Authority) licensing laws, you need to walk with a company who have been approved by them and given a trek license. In other words since 2010 no-one can purchase a trek permit to walk the track without first stating which Kokoda Track operator you are using. In other words the guide has to be employed by a company…[Read more]

Double dome swag sounds way too cumbersome for Kokoda. Think light or ultra light weight tent, good quality waterproofed material, well seamed. You should look for something with a weight no greater than 2.5 kg all up including fly cover and pegs.Enjoy.
