Ramsi Idau about to take on his first trek of 2011 after spending months gold prospecting in Kokoda, met up with Jo Kneebone. Shane mentioned yesterday that Ramsi was feeling the pinch of not walking this year and was at the rear of the group. As he goes along I am sure he will bounce back as he was so looking forward to this walk.IMGP3847__640x480_.JPG

Hi Dianne, thanks for your message. Yes, most definitely bring whatever you wish and we will find a way to get it over to Kokoda as the hospital is always looking for supplies and donations are most welcome.Out on the track itself, if you bring colouring in pencils, just bring one colouring in book and tear off the pages one by one and hand out…[Read more]

All the best for the track and with your boots Geoffrey. I think one of the hardest parts is deciding on equipment to take, particularly boots! Sounds like you are good to go. 🙂

OK, I have made a decision. I am going with the Scarpas. I feel I will need lightness on my side. When I returned the Mammut boots I went to a different outlet of Mountain Designs and was served by a boy who looked no more than 18 years old. I said I was returning these as I thought they may be too heavy for Kokoda. The boy said yes they are, and…[Read more]

Hi Dianne,As Peter has said, donated items will be gratefully received in Kokoda. I was able to take quite a few things as I had a personal porter. Most of what I took though was aimed at giving to villagers along the track. I sewed up some little bags and put marbles, hair clips & ties, small balls etc… in them for the children. Plus socks…[Read more]

Hi Dianne. We did exactly what you are proposing to do. A couple of other people on our trek left medical supplies at the hospital at Kokoda as well. Every day items such as panadol and bandaids etc etc. Its all gratefully recieved. We started at Kokoda which made it easier as we didnt have to lug all the stuff with us.

Vibram soles are great, but I dont like any sought of stiffness in the sole at all. It just puts too much strain on my feet. They tend to have to work too hard with stiff soles. I did say my feet, yours may be ok with it, but mine arent.Hopefully what ever you choose will be well worn in by the time you go and the stiffness will disapear.Have fun…[Read more]
