7pm – 1st January 2012: Wallace Lemeki just called in by sat phone to say they have reached Menari Village where they are spending the night. I asked if they celebrated in the New Year last night and he answered that climbing Maguli Range yesterday almost killed them so they…[Read more]

I got a Deuter pack and have done a couple of major treks/hikes since Kokoda, it looks like its been through the…[Read more]

Hi there, yes have purchased a few of these and they were ok. Of course not the same quality as say some of the more expensive brands, but if you are not a serious trekker and plan on walking heaps of other places, as long as the size is right (75 ltr) and the straps look strong, the cheaper the better. I purchased some cheap unknown brands on…[Read more]

Hello Jenny and also YvieDon't worry too much about age Jenny, if you have prepared, then you will manage the daily walk. Hi again, you appear to be taking your trek very seriously so am sure you both will have had sufficient training prior to your walk so should do well. With regards to tents – these days there are lots of traditional huts on the track. Villages charge us as trek operators a nightly fee irrespective of whether you sleep in a tent on the grass or in…[Read more]

Thanks for the encouraging words……I am currently undecided about the porter, rolling the concept around in my head for a while until I decide. I don't imaging that Liam's pack will be especially heavy, and he is a determined kid, but I won't really know until he is tested on some local walks. A few months ago I got 'courage', 'mateship',…[Read more]
