MemberNewsflash:
I received a telephone call this morning from Port Moresby advising me that the guesthouse our trekkers all enjoy staying in at Efogi has been burnt down along with all the mattresses and pillows and other gear we donated to Landy Noel and his family.
Naturally we are sorry to hear this news but will give support to Landy so that he can build a bigger and better one in 2008.
In PNG there is a tendency to bring people down or as we say in Australia, the tall poppy syndrome.
A couple of years ago Landy occupied another building on the edge of Efogi and was asked to leave. At the time it was thought he would be out of business but he bounced back and built the best guesthouse on the track so it did not stop him.
Now in 2008 seems people are still trying to make trouble for him so he has been attacked once again.
For us at Kokoda Trekking it is sad news as we know him and his wife have put a lot of hard work into their guesthouse and grounds so that you our trekkers can enjoy your stay in Efogi.
For anyone who has stayed at Efogi and has any interests in possibly helping Landy Noel and his family to get established quickly before trek season starts again, please email: gail@pngbd.com

MemberOnce again thanks goes out to Deanna Hart and her husband Stuart from Mackay who put into our account today the sum of $250 towards the rebuilding of Landy's guesthouse as they enjoyed their stay there and the hospitality shown them.
You may remember Deanna was responsible for organising the majority of donations that went up from Cairns for Cyclone Guba.
We will transfer this amount to Landy Noel's bank account along with some of our own. Hopefully he can rebuild before the busy Anzac treks.

MemberGail perhaps you could give us an account number to deposit a contribution for Landy Noel's rebuilding of that terrific guest house. Thanks
