Yesterday all trekkers were up bright and early for a 4:15am pick up, well the two who were staying at the Holiday Inn, others at the Gateway Hotel had a little later sleep in with a pick up time of 4:30am. We then headed off to Bomana in a convoy arriving there around 4:45am in plenty of time for the 5:00am service.

    Trekkers included:

Helen Rowles, Mark Atherton, Nigel McNair, Russell Gouldstone, Travis Meek, Martin Jacobs, Peter Kilpatrick, Anthony Campbell, Leesa Edwards, Sascha Ambrose, Geoffrey Burgess and Ruth Croft.

Our KTL team of porters and some of our trekkers from trek 272 seen here at the Bomana War Cemetery on Anzac Day 25th April 2007:

Later in the day trekkers were taken down to Russell Eroro's family block in Kokoda for some refreshments where they waited for our vehicle to drive them up to Kovello village where they spent the night:

Update 26/04/07: Trekkers enjoyed their overnight at Kovello and were up and walking towards Isurava Village when I spoke with their guide Rod Ori around 7am this morning. Later in the morning he phoned in by sat phone saying two guys had requested personal porters, apart from that everyone was doing just fine.

Update 28th April: Trekkers are down low at the moment and its hard to get two way radio contact. Our guide however carried a sat phone so should there be a problem he can still contact us. Will give you an update as soon as we hear from our guide Rod Ori.

Update 1st May:Our guide called in this morning and it appears all are doing ok and will be out on Thursday as per schedule.

A couple of things have happened. Anthony Campbell was airlifted out of Menari – is ok now and resting in a hotel. I spoke with this morning and he says he still does not feel 100% but is ok.

At the moment there is a problem with aircraft and pilots which have caused us quite a few headaches. Airlines of PNG's pilot Michael Butler was out of hours and could not fly but due to the fact that it was a medivac was able to do the flight for us.

Also as there is only a couple of guys endorsed to fly into the airstrips on the Kokoda Track that with Mike out of action its near high impossible to get food drops into Efogi and other places. This caused us to hire some guys to walk food in for our porters and we have been trying desperately for the past two weeks and it was a no go zone. With Anthony's pickup we were able to convince Mike to drop our food off at Efogi for the next lot of treks heading out which he was kind enough to do for us.

Trekkers were picked up at Vesulogo as the road was quite slippery on the way out and our truck got bogged and our two four wheel drive vehicles drove in further to meet up with them. Tonight we all met again at our trek de-briefing and everyone was in good spirits and were joining in the singing and saying they had a great time with our KTL boys.
