We all had an early start this morning when trek 264 were all picked up at 6:30am from various hotels such as the Lamana; Hideaway and Gateway Hotels. All trekkers were appeared excited and ready to hit the track. The plan was for our Troopcarrier to head out first with our staff and the truck to follow after stopping off at Bomana War Cemetery.

The plan went according to what was laid down but our 3 tonne truck got stuck behind another trekking company's bus when some landowners were not too happy some of their boys were not employed for their treks.

We ended up with our troopcarrier on the other side of the blocked road ie Ower's Corner side and our truck stuck on the other Sogeri side. Common sense finally prevailed and all vehicles proceeded to Ower's Corner for the commencement of their trek.

Hans Meyer who first kicked off this trek, brought along with him a uke'ule. Duggie Eroro's eyes popped out of his head when Hans himself played a few tunes before handing it over to us. I can imagine them all hamming it up tonight as there is also another one on their trek making two altogether so lots of music I am sure ahead of them.

Kingsley Boropi their guide radioed in this morning to say they stayed the night at Uberi along with our other trek that commenced walking yesterday. All trekkers are doing ok and at the time the radio message came through they were at the top of Emita Ridge. Will keep you posted if we hear anything further.

Update 18th April, 2007: This group spent the night at Ua'Ule Creek and then headed out this morning.

They met up with another of our groups walking in the opposite direction at Maguli Ridge. They plan to spend the night at Nauro with our other group heading in the same direction.

Update 2:30pm 18/04: Our guide radioed into to inform us that its raining and they have decided to push past Naoro and head for Menari where they will spend the night.

The reason being is that they want to cross over Naoro River before the waters rise due to the rain being experienced in this area.

Both treks that headed out the same day are going to meet at Naoro river to help each other across the river.

Update 22nd April 12:30pm: Trekkers called up from Alola to say hi. I spoke to Kingsley their guide and also Luke. He said the whole group is having a great time. Lots of music…..lots of fun! They are asking for at least 5 cartons of beer when they reach Kokoda and are planning on sending two food porters ahead to arrange the purchase of it.

Update 23/04/07: Trekkers are on their way down to the Kokoda Station. When we spoke to our guide this morning we could hear them singing and yelling in the background!

Trekkers will walk around the monument area such as the one in this photograph then make their way down to Rusty's Family Block in Kokoda where they will spend the night.

Kokoda airport terminal building. Note their trusted walking sticks that we handed to them before they left Port Moresby, still in tact and I am sure some would be destined for home back to Australia as a momento of their trek:
