MemberEntrants in this years race include three aussies. Two brothers Sean and Bryan O'Hara who also competed in last year's race along with a newcomer and it seems a name familiar with COOL RUNNING, namely Damon Goerke.
A google search on Damon Goerke has shown up the following:
Damon Goerke:
Current team: The Mexicans
Alias (known as): Hairy legs, carpet chest
Occupation: Engineer
Country: New South Wales AustraliaI thought multisport was boat races and playing pool at the uni pub until my girlfriend Fleur dragged me out to support her and friends at the winter classic. I was hooked and then learnt to kayak, ski, navigate, cycle etc so I could join in the fun and haven't looked back since.
I've since done most of the big races in Aust and NZ and hope to do more.
Best AR discipline: Running
Worst AR discipline Abseiling: – I hate heights (thats me screaming on the Geoquest entry form below Kim)
AR ambitions: To travel to some exotic locations to race
AR bugbea:r Finding team mates for all the races you want to do
AR best moment: The last 10 metres of any race
AR worst moment: Spooning with Richard Anderson in a tiny tent during the Southern Traverse (it was cold ok!)
My AR best results: Southern Traverse – 2nd 2003 – Geoquest – 2nd 2003, 1st 2002 Arrow 24 hour – 5 x 1st places in 4 person mixed category; Trailwalker – 1st place Melbourne 2004
My next AR events: Geoquest – Hopefully Southern Traverse
Favourite AR race: Geoquest
Favourite piece of kit: My girlfriend Fleur
Advice(tip) for other racers: No apologies for flatulence when you're on the trails, but once it's over – ZIP IT!
I guess you could now say he will soon achieve one of his ambitions, that is to travel to some exotic locations to race. I will post his comments when he finishes this years Kokoda Challenge.25/08/2006 at 4:14 am #96918aussie

If you get the chance can you past this onto the KTL boys from trek 213: Best of luck to Tom, Rod, Andrew, Horace, Lance, Brendon and Jimmy for the Kokoda Challenge. Will be interesting to see if the young quick fox (Horace) can outdo the sly old fox (Tom). Tom, hope you gave up smoking so that you can win this!
Game On Boys, we'll be monitoring the website on the weekend

MemberHi Gail, all the best for the foot race, please email us the results. Special thoughts to Rod and the rest of the boys. I was thinking of jumping on the plane and coming over for the race but was told that I would only put them to shame and they
would only slow me down.Regards.

MemberHi Gail, hope this email finds you well. I'd imagine that you'd be run off your feet a little more than usual right about now? I hope all the pre-24hr race planning & preparation hasn't been too stressful for you & it's all coming together as smoothly as can be expected in PNG? Please pass on my well wishes & good luck to the boys: Rod, Andrew, Wayne & Frank(?)
All 16 members of my group that trekked last month will be keeping a close eye on how the race pans out. We wish all the boys the very best of luck. This is an amazing physical challenge, one that would be hard to match by any other on Earth, & I am both honoured & extremely proud to know Rod, Andrew, Wayne & Frank… & feel privileged to be able call these champion boys my friends!
GOOD LUCK!
Regards,
Matt BollingerPS. looking forward to seeing you again in 2007!

MemberHi Gail
I can't believe that 12 months has elapsed since the last Kokoda Challenge.
Good Luck to everyone, but special best wishes to Rod for an injury free run and to be the first to sprint (jog) up that final hill to Owers. I will be logging on over the weekend to read the reports from the field.
Gail, this time last week I was in Sydney at the Miranda RSL for Clive Baker's book launch for 'Kokoda Trek' and joined Clive's inaugural Kokoda Trekkers Club.
Met some wonderful people, including 9 WWII Kokoda Veterans, Pam the Artist, who features on the front page of Clive's book.Surprisingly I was also approached by a chap, who said, "I know you!". As it turned out, he was on Paul Kennedy's Ch 10 News story, as I did, from the story featuring the ANZAC Day Service at Isurava in 2005. I still keep in contact with Paul, he has since left Ch 10.
Again good luck to everyone and I look forward to the day when I can return to walk, this time, from Owers to Kokoda and then to savour the welcome at Russell's, which we missed out on last year.
Good Luck Rod and make sure you stretch your calves before you start, I know how bad they can be, as mine went halfway through this year's City to Surf.
Warm regards
