MemberThanks, Waza – that's a help.
I am not "trekking" the track – I'm doing the 1-day helicopter tour.
There'll be just me, the pilot, a guide – and the manager is coming along for the ride.Five years ago I wanted to do the actual "trek", but two bouts of cancer since then have weakened this old bod a bit.
The helicopter tour covers most of the sites I want to see, and it's about a 2km walk from the present Isurava to the original – that will be all the walking I'll be doing.Cheers,

MemberHi Delta
Thanks for the response, wow! a helicopter trip would be so awesome, I have footage from Paul, a Ch 10 Reporter from last year and it was sensational.
Also when we were approaching Mt Bellamy on 28th April, we spotted a chopper through the trees and some time later, met two of the passengers, a husband and wife and her Father, was waiting up on the top of the Mt Bellamy. (I guess you will be landing there as well)
He was an 85 year old (86 the next day) veteran of the 2/3rd Battalion and was doing a chopper trip, similar to yours.
Sorry to hear about your cancer bouts and hope you have recovered well.
Regarding inoculations, I would still consult with your Doctor on what is advisable.
Have you an email address? If so, I can email some shots from Mt Bellamy for you.
Keep in touch
Regards
Warren

MemberWaza –
My travel preparations for the helicopter tour are now complete – see under "Wanted – 3 People" in the "General Discussions" forum.
I will be seeing my G.P. regarding the necessary vaccinations.
I have seen on the Ecotourism Melanesia site that tourist visas can be obtained on arrival at Port Moresby airport. Do you know if this is so?Cheers,

MemberHi Delta
Glad you are organised for your trip, when do you go? Will have a look at the website shortly. Our photos are now on the web-site, if you are interested.
Glad you are seeing your Doc as well, let the experts decide what is best for you.
Yes you can organise a Visa at Jacksons Airport, when you get there, forget how much it cost, could have been around $100.
Don't forget to take a lot of photos and don't forget to send me some please.
Also don't forget to take a map with you and look for certain villages and parts of the Track, especially Isurava, Efogi, Myola, Templeton's Crossing, the Kokoda Gap (South of Menari), Brigade Hill, Iorabaiwa and Imita Ridge.
Hear from you soon.
Regards
Warren

MemberWaza/Warren –
I will be doing the tour on Sunday, 9 April.
I know the track in detail, and we will be landing at as many significant points as possible.
Trouble is, Aaron (who is the manager of Ecotourism Melanesia) has told me that someone has built a hut on Brigade Hill right where the helicopter needs to land. "Local authorities" are trying to get him to "relocate".
As I have said elsewhere, I will be taking along a video camera, a digital camera, a GPS and a tape-recorder. The still photos will go off to a publisher with my manuscript, while I hope to make a "doco" with the video-camera.
I am aware that the Track has been made more "trekker-friendly", and it is my intention to see the original track – so I hope the guide knows where it is.
Also, the locals have moved some of their villages – e.g., the present Isurava is some 2km south of the original site.
What isn't mentioned in most books about the campaign is that "Kingsbury's Rock" isn't on the main track – as shown in Patrick Lindsay's "Spirit of Kokoda" it is on a track running parallel a short distance to the east.
Such detail is significant….Cheers,

Firstly, my apologies for not getting back to you before you went to wish you all my best for your 9th April trip. Very poor on my behalf.
Not sure if you are back yet, but if so, I hope you really enjoyed yourself and it was just a wonderful experience for you. Look forward to hearing from you and learning more about the trip.
Take care, kind regards
