    This morning trekkers had an early start as they were up around 5am to book out etc before being picked up and driven to Airlines of PNG's domestic airport departure area for their flight to Kokoda.

    A few hickups followed in so much that the traffic officers decided to offload three trekkers which did not exactly make me too happy as trekkers were treated on a first to the counter basis and in merit of their reservation booking.

    This followed a quick trip up to Operations to talk to Bill Fields who quickly rectified the situation and made sure our trekkers who had been booked and ticketed weeks earlier actually got away.

    Trekkers seen here at Jackson's Airport shortly before their flight to Kokoda:

    Update 1st August, 2005;

    Trek 96
    Trekkers and porters are now at Deniki, the half way point of the test mountain. All trekkers are fine and doing well. There?s no report of anyone struggling or having problems at this time, so that?s good news.

    At the moment they?re having a rest, and soon after that will proceed up to Isurava village. Whether or not they?ll spend the night there, is yet to be let known by their guide, Rod Ori. Who will contact me through the two-way-radio to confirm that.

    More updates will be posted up later on today.

    Update 2nd August, 2005;

    Trek 96
    The group spent the night at Isurava Battlefield yesterday evening, and today headed out for yet another day?s adventure. Although it was a tough climb up the test mountain that morning, they all managed to make it through to the end and reside in their camp site. The group guide Rod Ori, reported to me that everything went really well yesterday when they arrived at their camp site, so that was good to hear.

    Today the group didn?t do much of a climbing instead, a lot of descending after their lunch up at Alola village around 12 mid-day.

    Now up at Eora Creek, their second camp site, the trekkers and porters are busy sorting out their stuff and preparing their tents and even getting ready before their evening meal to commence later on this evening. All trekkers have done really well today, none are facing or having problems at this time, they all did great and all are well, which is good to hear.

    It?s quite early as you can see they just arrived 2:30pm this evening, but I think its a good time, coz they really need this rest. Tomorrow is another day and when that day comes, they will do a awfully lot more hill climbing then what they did today, so yeah, they really need this rest to give them enough strenght to start early tomorrow.

    Other than that, everyone?s fine, everything's ok and so is the weather.

    Update 3rd August, 2005;

    Trek 96
    Haven?t heard from this group since this morning, I?m pretty sure they must have tried to get in touch with me, but due to their location their radio could not get a clear reception.

    I?m guessing they must have had lunch at Templeton?s Crossing 1 and after that headed up to Mt Bellamy and down again to their campsite Myola Junction. I?m not too sure about that, but I know all 9 days 8 nights trek do the same kind of route, unless the trekkers are slow, they will camp at Templeton?s Crossing 1. But let?s not get conclusions, we?ll just wait till tomorrow or if they happen to call later on today that would be great. I?ll get full report of their trek, including trekkers? conditions and update you all.

    Other then that, I?m pretty confident all trekkers are ok, and are well taken care of by the porters and guide.

    See more updates tomorrow

    Update 5th August, 2005;

    Trek 96
    Just a few minutes ago I received a radio call from the group guide Rod, who gave me the latest of his, groups whereabouts and trekkers conditions. He said, they are now located at Menari River or Brown River, and soon will reach Menari Village. All trekkers are well, and doing just fine. There?s been no report of anyone having problems or difficulties all have been doing tremendously great.

    Yes on Wednesday the group, had lunch at Templeton?s Crossing 1 and after that moved on to Myola Junction where they camped for the night. Although, they did a lot of climbing, that very day all trekkers did extremely great and at the end had a good rest when they got to their campsite.

    Yesterday, while the group was on their way up to Brigade Hill where they planed to camp for the night, they bumped in to trekkers and porters of Trek 87. There, they all stopped shared a few conversation, and then moved on to their respective destination.

    This morning the group was up again and yes ready for another day walk, with their weather not so much good, I?m sure they can do away with the sun for just one day.

    So far, all trekkers have done really well, so hopefully they will keep up like that and stay better till the end of their trek, I?m pretty sure they will all be.

    Latest on the trail;

    Trek 96
    These groups as finally reached Menari village, all trekkers are well, still in good shape, looking fit and even strong. They are currently having lunch and soon will move on to Nauro village where they might spend the night.
    Weather at their looks fine, so should be a good day for this bunch.

    One of the trekkers sends this message to his wife. The same message will also be emailed to her.

    Hugh

    ?At Menari village, all trekkers are well. Lots of sing-sings, everyone?s happy and enjoying the trek. We?re eating a lot of bananas and pawpaws.?

    Update 8th August, 2005;

    Trek 96
    After spending the last two nights in their respective campsites, now see the trekkers and porters to the last day of their trek journey. All trekkers are well, they all did terrific out their and are about to complete it successfully.

    They will be picked up by Gail, Russell, and our driver, in our KTL 1(Kokoda Trekking Limited 1) truck and PNGBD 1 (Papua New Guinea Business Directory 1) bus. The threesomes are also heading up to Owers Corner with another bunch of trekkers who will head out for their trek expedition, which will start today, well all the best to them.

    With a fine weather like today, I?m sure the trekkers will have a good ending. Oh! Between you and me, the trekkers don?t know that their guide Rod and the other porters are up to giving them a good surprise ending. Now what will that be, he didn?t say, but we?ll hear from them when they get here.

    WELL, CONGRATULATIONS TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU, FOR DOING THIS A SUCCESSFUL WALK & WELCOME BACK.
