A few hiccups with this trek but everything has turned out well in the end. Lionel Jardine arrived as planned around midday on the 8th June with Air Niugini/Qantas and can be seen here relaxing at our base in Port Moresby before he headed out to Sogeri Lodge later in the afternoon.

MemberEarlier we had received news that the Airlines PNG/Virgin flight was running late and instead of arriving at 13:05 the time would now be 7:30pm that night.
Ourselves and Sogeri Lodge met trekkers at the airport so that turned out ok but am sure they must have got sick of waiting around Brisbane airport until they were called to board their flight to PNG. They can be seen below shortly after they arrived and as they were boarding the bus to head to their accommodation.

MemberOn the same day 5 of our porters flight was cancelled out of Popondetta and they were down to catch the flight on the morning of the 8th June at 8am.T
The morning of the 9th June it was decided that we collect the boys from the airport then head to the Airways Hotel to collect two other trekkers David and Louise York and that we would head out of town and pick up the others as quickly as possible after that.
On the 9th, everything went according to plan.

MemberOne more thing I forgot to mention, Bronwyn Grass on arrival in PNG found her bag had failed to get on the flight and was still in Australia.
Bronwyn had called me earlier on the morning of the 9th thinking of pulling out and waiting to see if her bag turned up. I assured her we would take care of her bag and would get it walked in to her and in the meantime to commence the trek along with everyone else using items that either we or Sogeri Lodge would supply to help her out until her backpack turned up.
So on arrival at Sogeri Lodge, Bronwyn quickly went through clothes supplied and picked out a few items that would fit her, packed her hired backpack and before long we were all about to head off to the drop off point of Owers' Corner.

MemberBye bye trek 839. It was quite a slippery start and one of our porters slipped over whilst looking at his trekker and not at his feet. This caused a couple of anxious moments for the guide on this trek, Horace Yauga.

MemberLast night the remaining member of this trek, Simon Wood arrived in town around 9pm. We agreed to pick him up at 6am and drive him out to Owers' Corner so he could walk in and catch up with the group of trekkers who had spent the night at Goodwater campsite.
Simon was just SO HAPPY as it seems he had booked with another company who subsequently cancelled the trek due to insufficient numbers so he asked around and ended up joining this trek but with airline tickets already booked unfortunately he could not arrive on the 8th.
We deliberately kept two food backpacks here at our base so that we could hire two porters from Sogeri to walk in with Simon and then offload the food to other boys and turn back after day 2. The end result was that Bronwyn's backpack arrived so there was then a need for 3 porters who can be seen here with Simon.
It was soon time to wave goodbye to Simon, who looked as happy as larry to be heading off down the track.

MemberThe guide for this trek is Horace Yauga – this is his first trek as a guide so will naturally be looking forward to this. Wallace Lemeki one of our most senior guides unfortunately cannot walk at the moment previously selected to walk with this trek. It was his recommendation that Horace be moved up to take his place.
Horace has always finished in the top 5 of our Kokoda Challenge Races and has always walked with Wallace and has over 50 treks to his credit before receiving this promotion. We wish him well for his first walk as a guide.

MemberHorace phoned from Imita Ridge and said they were all going well and that the plan was to stop at Ua'Ule Creek. He expected Simon to join them later today.

MemberCongratulations Horace on your new appointment as a Guide for KTL, you thoroughly deserve it my friend. We missed you after you left our Trek to head to the North Coast. Look after yourself and keep in touch through gail's website.
Best regards from Lara & grant as well.
Best wishes
Waza
