Saturday, November 13th – was the first day of the trek in lead up to Aussie?s nine days ordeal on the famous WWII Kokoda Trail.

Gail Thomas, alias aussie, in her attempt to walk the 96km trail started off well at Vesulogo village up in Sogeri heading towards Ower's Corner where the WWII trek officially begins.

Those of you who began their trekking journey at Ower?s Corner will relate well to this experience. Gail?s journey began with a steep descend from Ower?s Corner down towards Goldie River. From here they proceeded on to Uberi Creek where they camped for the night.

On Sunday night they camped overnight at Ua'le Creek before heading towards Ofi Creek on the third day. We reached Gail on Monday morning (yesterday) via hand radio and she said she was doing fine.

Yesterday?s trip was supposed to end at Nauro but didn?t go as planned as it was raining.

It was raining heavily last night at Ofi Creek and everything was wet so they had to make a rush for Nauro as Russell planned to have the tents erected to let everything dry out.

They also planned to proceed to Menari later today but their plans have changed once they reached Nauro at 2:45pm. Chris called later today to confirm their arrival and informed us they will be camping tonight at Nauro.

Gail seen here at Ower's Corner with Kenny…around September. As part of her training she took a hike to Ower's Corner and down towards Goldie River wher they camped for night.

Gail is accompanied by an old friend Beverley Howell who flew all the way from Australia to join her. The two of them are doing great, catching up on a lot of stories from good old days and according to Beverley ? ?having the time of their lives?.

At 12:45 today I reached Gail on the radio whilst taking their lunch break with the porters and guides and Russell Eroro at Maguli Range.

?I am doing great and having fun at the same time. We?ve had a bad weather last night ? raining through the night. My legs are feeling quiet all right,? Gail said adding that the stairs at Deloitte Tower did pay off well.

Maybe no pains as yet and at the pace they are going will they be able to make it to Kokoda in nine days?

?Yes definitely!? was Gail?s immediate answer. There is no need to rush ? and the girls are going at their own pace and are adamant that that they will complete trek as scheduled and that nothing will stop them from accomplishing that.

?It is just so amazing. We are doing just fine ? and loving every minute of our trekking. We?ve had frequent stops while walking and the boys (porters & guides) are fantastic.

We are having the time of our lives and wouldn?t have done so without the boys,? Beverly said.

As everyone has a story to tell, watch out for her story – Aussie's nine days ordeal along Kokoda Trail…haha.

We will keep you informed on her trek tomorrow and onwards.

    Ends..//
