FOURTEEN Japanese Trekkers who headed out on the Kokoda Trail on August 24th with Pam Christie of PNG Trekking Adventure Tours as their trek co-ordinator successfully completed their 96km trek from Ower's Corner to Kokoda and flew back into Port Moresby yesterday, the 1st of September.

Eric Uwea from Extreme Kokoda Trekking Ltd was their guide and our porters and food porters helped get them home.

The fourteen trekkers, two females including 12 males arrived safely at Russel's Block in Kokoda where they were welcomed by the traditional 'singsing' group in the area.

And such has been the highlight for many group of trekkers that have trekked with us.

And it wasn't just the dance, but that night the trekkers were welcomed to a big feast of meal

This is the second time we have had a group of Japanese trekking with us and we hope to get more of them walking the famous kokoda trail.

The Japanese, like Australians have a common attachment to the trail because of WWII. Today both sides now walk the trail, some 60 years back, they battled and shed blood on this mountainous Paradise.

Recently we had a lone Japanese Trekker who joined a group of aussies and they all enjoyed each others company which was just great to see. In 2004, it shows that they, like so many Australians did not have a say in who started the war or for that matter who won or lost, only that they too lost loved ones who never returned home from Papua New Guinea. This young man was here to pay his respects and was just so elated that he was able to trek.

We sincerely hope this group of Japanese trekkers return home and tell their families and friends what a great time they had on the trail and how friendly the png people were towards them.

    Lest we Forget

After the trek was ccompleted the trekkers went into a night of fun at Russel's Block with neighborhood joining the fun.

As a sign of appreciation to the porters and guides the Japanese guys lifted Eric Uwea and Kinglsey Boropi and help them above their heads.

It was a nice experience and both Eric and Kingsley were thankful for such appreciation.

And if chewing betelnut was a sign of appreciation….this young Japanese guy just settled for it….
