MemberDoes anyone know where you can get porters/guides from starting at owers corner. I just need 1 for me and a friend who are going to do it independantly from a tour group.

MemberHello there! We can find you a reliable guide that knows the trail well but would not be responsible for anything thereafter. He would also have a hand held radio for communication.
A lot of people do not like trekking in large groups, however, you do have to realise you are in PNG and it can well and truly be the land of the unexpected.
Touch wood, we have only had one incident since day one but we are always on the lookout for trouble and larger groups always provide more safety than smaller ones.
Plus you also have the added backup of extra people to go for help in the case something happens. Indendent guides off the street would not be equipped with radios in the case of emergencies and believe me they can happen. In the past two-three months, we have had to airlift off the trail 3 trekkers.
