Have you ever thought what you are going to do after you have walked the Kokoda Trail and still want a few relaxing days here on in Papua New Guinea? If so, please consider the following as there are two choices:

Option 1 – Tufi Dive Resort where you can rest in comfort and enjoy your stay much like any other hotel accommodation.

Option 2 – Same destination, same airstrip etc only a guest house compared to the resort accommodation. You can still stay in the guest house and access amenties such as diving etc from the resort but save on your accommodation costs.

The Resort is nestled on top of a Fiord with 180-degree panoramic views of the sea and the Fjord. They have 24 hour per day reticulated power and air conditioned units, each with its own private balcony. They also have two levels of bungalows for double share, which is deluxe or conventional. The deluxe rooms have hardwood floors, private decks, bar fridges hair dryers air-conditioning and fans and screens.

Our aim is to provide a first class service to our trekkers and we feel Tufi Resort adds a final touch to your hard work out on the trail.

The conventional bungalows omit the bar fridge and only some have private decks, all airconditioned. The room rates include 3 meals a day dinner being 3 courses. The resort also has 3 backpacker units, which have private bathroom and balcony, fans, and no air-conditioning. These are rooms for the budget traveller. Guests staying for 7 days or more there is a discount of 10% off diving and accommodation.

Tufi runs various low season specials from May through October each year. Groups of 6 + 1 (the 7th FOC) and local 3 night weekenders for local residents.

Tufi Resort has a well appointed bar with the coldest beer in "town" (also try out our freshly made local fruit juices). Their restaurant serves fabulous meals. A great mix of fresh seafood, Western as well as Japanese cuisine and once a week they have a Melanesian night with local dishes and upon request a colourful traditional dance group performing a "sing-sing".

    Where is Tufi?

Tufi is located on the northern side of the mainland of Papua New Guinea and approximately 250 kilometres north east of the capital, Port Moresby. It lies between Lae and Alotau on the tip of Cape Nelson in the Oro Province and is accessible only by sea and air.

If you thought diving was good in other spots of PNG, try this?.. Visibility is at least 50 m PLUS!

Good diving all year round but October through June for the really flat seas. There is a ribbon reef system, not unlike the Barrier Reef, (nearest reef is only 50 minutes' boat trip away) running parallel to the shore. The reefs come up out of nowhere from a depth of around 600m, hence the unreal visibility.

There is abundant fish life, with large schools of Pelagics. Such as a variety of Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Barracuda, white tip reef sharks and the uncommon white Hammerhead sharks. Manta and Eagle Rays are often lazily cruising by.

Inside the Fiord (5 minutes from resort) they have some great dive sites, which offer the keen underwater photographer a vast array of small critters, an ideal spot for Macro shots. Here you find Ghost pipefish as well as the ornate Ghost pipefish, the elusive Mandarin fish, Nudibranchs, pigmy seahorse and a plethora of other fascinating creatures.

Tufi is also great for night diving.

The 3 newly qualified Dive Masters (local boys) are excellent to accompany their International Dive Team. They just roll up with the guests every morning at 8.30 am after breakfast and everything is set up and loaded on the boat. They have a great dive shop at the edge of the Fiord. Many of their dive sites have great spots at 20 metres along with diving in our fjord, which is a macro lovers delight as previously mentioned.

Two dives per day out on the reef with packed lunch on board. Night dives in the Fiord by arrangement. PNG is rich in WW11 history. Tufi was an American torpedo boat base and right outside our wharf at a depth of 45m they have a couple of PT boats shot down while at anchor.

The resort also offers bush and nature walks where many species of birds are seen, kayaking, fishing charters as well as visits to local villages, and snorkeling trips for non-divers. A truly cultural experience that no other resort offers.

The interaction with traditional locals is far more developed here than in most areas, which is a real educational for young or old alike. Children under 10 FOC at the resort. Child minding facilities are also available.

There are lots of flights to choose from coming into Port Moresby from Brisbane and Cairns. A connecting flight from Port Moresby to Tufi can be arranged, therefore not having to spend too much time in Port Moresby.

Charter flights can also be arranged if your schedule does not suit the local airline schedule.

Airlines of PNG fly to Tufi and back to Port Moresby every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

If you have enjoyed diving and resorts in other countries, we would strongly recommend you start planning your next dive trips to Tufi in PNG. They can offer you tailor made dive packages at affordable prices. You tell us what you want and we will quote you.

They do not have Nitrox and they do not have twin set-ups. But they can you give shore diving during the day for the macro-photographer in addition to their open water dives.

Accommodation and diving is prepaid before departure. We accept direct telegraphic transfers, MasterCard and Visa credit cards only.

Oops swimming pool – they don't need one as they have the most magnificent fjord at their doorstep.

Interested? If so, please contact us through our Booking Form as an add on to your Kokoda Trek. At the present moment we are waiting on Airlines of Papua New Guinea to come back to us with the cost of transporting our trekkers from Kokoda to Tufi and return to Port Moresby.

Two previous trekkers, Shane Wilkinson and Michael Hann walked from Kokoda to Ower's Corner, spent a day relaxing here in Port Moresby and then flew out on the Wednesday to Tufi where they stayed in the village Guest House at around K20.00 per day.

If you want comfort after the trail then you book into the resort with aircon rooms etc. If you are working on a budget, then you can continue roughing it and follow in these guys footsteps. Either way, you can still enjoy what the resort has to offer by using their dive boat and amenities.

From memory, Shane and Michael said the airfares cost them around the K670.00 mark. If anyone is interested, please let me know and I will pass on further information.
