Boss Meri
MemberANZAC DAY: For the attention of all trekkers who will be in Port Moresby for the 25th Anzac Day service. Previously trekking companies were invited to the Australian High Commission following the Anzac Day service at Bomana but in 2015 this will no longer be the case. Please refer below for the email received this morning from the Port Moresby RSL Club.
Dear Trekking Companies, we, the Returned & Services League of Australia, Port Moresby Sub-Branch (POM RSL), have now decided that we wish to reinvigorate the original intent of the Gunfire Breakfast, i.e. the breakfast was always a private way of the RSL showing our thanks to the dignitaries, Australian High Commission staff, Defence personnel and sponsors who are directly involved in making sure this event is of the highest calibre, in order to honour and respect the past and current serving military personnel and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
This has seemingly changed to a public event over the years and this was never its core purpose. Taking all of the above into account it has been decided to scale back the breakfast to only include direct stakeholders and to ensure the focus remains on the actual service.
All activities will be open to the public at the Royal Papua Yacht Club.
RegardsBernard Hayes
Secretary
Returned & Services League of Australia
