MemberThe Governor-General has officially opened the Remembrance Park at Healy Parade, between Koki market and Ela beach in the nation's capital on the 30th September, 2005.

Minister for Community Development, Hon. Dame Carol Kidu who was also there to witness the opening ceremony said the park and its monuments reflected a very significant image of which the ordinary people stepped out during the war and represented PNG.
"The park whould be respected and treated as a place for meditation and quiet thinking," she said.
The Governor General was delighted by the amount of respect and honor dedicated to the servicemen and women who fought in the two world wars and those who had died in the line of duty, while serving their nation.
He said: "It was their bravery, dedication and determination to save our land, and our people, that ensured our freedom. Such heroic acts must not go un-noticed, or taken for granted in this era, but be remembered, recognized, respected and certainly valued."
He thanked the NCDC for the insight in coming up with the development, which was amount many they had planned to develop in Port Moresby.
Sir Paulias reminded every citizen to look after the facility and treat it with respect and honor as it served as a monumental reminder of the fallen heroes.
