MemberSix Australian flew in to Kokoda yesterday morning for the 9 Day 8 Night Trek.
Trekkers Brett Wilson, Andrew Luedecke, Leigh spencer, John McNamara and Megan Noble – the only female in the group – completed their first trek today and have 8 more treks to complete. The first night they spent at Russell Eroro's block at Kokoda where they enjoyed a sing sing and a true Oro Province welcome.
Paul Davis a lone trekker also headed out with a guide from Kokoda as the above trekkers wanted a closed trek. Paul is presently in PNG staying with one of the longest serving Airlines of PNG pilots, Michael Butler, who regularly flies into all airstrips in and around the Kokoda Trail. Paul was supposed to fly out on the earlier trek finishing on Thursday but took sick and could not trek. He is also renowned for canoeing and I would classify him as a real adventurer.
The trek led by our Guide Kingsley Boropi, arrived at Isurava where they will be camping for the night. Kingsley confirmed that all trekkers are fine and in fit form.
As usual with all our treks, they have the privilege of visiting the Isurava Monument. It is one of the highlights of the treks.
Meanwhile Andrew Ricketts' team led by Eric Uwea have arrived at Menari where they will camp for the night. So far so good. Everyone's doing okay. They have three more treks to complete and its over!
We also have two more groups of trekkers due for the trek tommorrow (August 17th) – one group will fly in to Kokoda and the other will be start from Ower's Corner. The group of trekkers will arrive today. Will keep you posted on their arrival and their trekking.
Eric Uwea on a previous trek when one of his trekkers was struggling….check it out, Eric carried a pack on his back and one on his front:
