MemberTrek 967: Trekkers had a rough start to their trek as they were to arrive on the morning of the 12th May and head straight out to the track. Luck was not with them as their flight was delayed out of Hong Kong and they did not arrive until 5:30am on the morning of the 13th May so lost a days walking having had two trips back and forth from a hotel to the airport so arrived pretty tired. Trekkers in this group include :
-
[*]Kate
[*]Tim
[*]ChloeTrek 969: Everything went ahead as per plan for this group of trekkers who turned up in Port Moresby from 11am onwards. on the night of the 12th they all went out to the Royal Papua Yacht Club for pizza's and apparently they must have over ordered as there was some left over that Pat kept to give the boys as things stuffed up for them.
The guys left Kokoda at 1am to go down to Popondetta as thats the time the public transport leaves each day. They asked me to get tickets for them on the afternoon flight just in case they did not reach the airport before 7am the morning book in time. So they hung around Popondetta until mid afternoon and made their way out of town to the airport. They then got the message that due to bad weather, their flight had been cancelled. The boys are used to roughing it so managed to find a patch of lawn to sleep on and something to eat and turned up again for the 7am flight on the morning of the 13th. The following day they arrived in Port Moresby at 8:30am in time to head out to Owers' Corner with the trekkers. Trekkers in this group include :
-
[*]Kel and Adelle Henry
[*]Jenny & Lauren Bruce
[*]Timothy & John Piggott
[*]Samuel Coote along with their guide

MemberOn the morning of the 13th, trekkers were driven out to Bomana War Cemetery on the way to the drop off point at Owers' Corner. The road up to Sogeri is pretty bad at the moment but the dirt one from Sogeri to Owers' Corner yesterday was very slippery and wet due to all the rain during the week so it was a pretty slow drive. The two hired buses got bogged about 3-4 times so for trekkers the adventure commenced when they left their accommodation earlier that morning.
Due to the late start around 2pm, they decided to pull up at Goldie River to spend the night.

MemberBefore heading off, trekkers were introduced to their personal porters. Jenny Bruce and Ivan Semie are paired up. Ivan lives in Kokoda and is considered one of our best personal porters.
