This trek had a few problems before they commenced their walk today around 1pm. After arriving in Port Moresby I met up with them and drove them out to Bomana War Cemetery then back to their accommodation. It was decided due to their late arrival that they stay in town instead of heading out to Loloata where they were booked for the night. It was arranged that I would pick them up so they could go to the Royal Papua Yacht Club for dinner. When I returned, I was informed that Clive and Tom had somehow misplaced their passports. We checked the car, NOTHING. We then headed back to the airport, NOTHING. Then to the yacht club.

This morning instead of an early start, it was decided that Tom and Clive should go to the Australian High Commission to report their missing passport so on their arrival back from the track they could travel home. This turned into quite an ordeal with paper work, passport photographs etc but finally they felt relieved and could concentrate once again on why they were in PNG and that was to walk the Kokoda Trail and/or as some say Kokoda Track.

By the time we reached Owers' Corner and they got away, it was around 1pm.

I received a message from the track to say they reached their destination for today of 'Goodwater Campsite' and that everyone including Tom was doing ok. On this trek are the following trekkers:

      [*]Tom Quick
      [*]Clive Quick
      [*]Tim Eyres
      [*]Rick Brine

This trek is a very special trek as Tom had a stroke and will find it a pretty tough walk. Please take the time to view his facebook page. I have copy pasted a little bit of it here:

How’s this for Motivation & Inspiration! Tom suffered from a stoke at the age of 12 and was diagnosed with having Arteriovenous Malformation. Tom has given himself a big goal of completing the Kokoda Track whilst raising funds for The National Stroke Foundation. Take a look at his story and help Tom achieve his goal.

    Good Luck Tom!

    Tom’s Story

At the young age of 12 I woke up one morning with a headache… 5 weeks and 2 days later I came out of an induced coma and was diagnosed with having a Arteriovenous Malformation.

In shorter terms I had suffered from a stroke and my life had now changed forever.

Throughout my teenage years I lacked motivation and was finding hard dealing with my condition.

However, in the last 3 years I have changed my mindset and set many goals that I want to achieve. One of those being conquering the Kokoda Trail.

With your help I will smash this trail and raise much needed funds and awareness to my nominated charity… The National Stroke Foundation

Thank you in advance for your support. Tommy.

The group have now reached their destination for today being Ua'Ule Creek. Tomorrow they will head for Ofi Creek.

Tom has done really well to reach this point so can't wait to get an update re day 3.

The weather has been kind to date, lets hope it continues. The other end has had quite a lot of rain during the past two weeks so might get slippery as they head towards to finish line.

Trekkers have now reached Ofi Creek where they are camped for the night. Ernst said everyone continues to do well and they are quite confident that Tom will reach Kokoda.

Apparently he prefers the up's rather than the descents, so tomorrow should be his day as they climb up Maguli Range and head to Naoro.

As they are heading to Naoro, their friends will be arriving in Port Moresby to play catch up with the lead group when they commence their trek on the 13th September.

Our thoughts are with them all but especially Tom as he struggles along the infamous Kokoda Trail.

    Go TOM

Trekkers have now reached Naoro Village where they will spend the night. Tom continues to shine and it seems is coping with walking uphill more than the descents.

Arnold phoned around 4pm and said they were waiting for top of Maguli Range. As he was talking he sounded excited as him and Tim could see Tom coming in the distance.

Well done Tom, keep up the good work.

Tom and fellow trekkers are doing really well. When they arrived in Menari they were greeted by village people with flowers and goodwill to see someone like Tom walking the track.

Last night this trek had reached the half way point of Efogi. Today they are at Kagi Village and the same thing has happened. Everywhere Tom goes the locals are right behind him and showing their support.

According to Ernst their guide, this is the first time a stroke victim has walked the track.

Well done Tom, well done everyone. You are an inspiration to us all.

Tom Quick and other trekkers have now reached 1900 where they are camped for the night. Word continues to go out about what a gutsy effort Tom is putting in to complete his trek. Am not out there with him but feel as if I am as constantly thinking of him and how hard it is for the majority but for Tom it must be so much harder than all of us. Go Tom!

Trekkers have now reached Eora Creek where they are spending the night. Tom is on the home run now so not too much longer before he can boast to everyone that he has walked the infamous Kokoda Trail.

His father must be so proud of him along with the others as I know our boys are. John Prossor said from Efogi this morning that the way he is going he will be hard to catch!

Picture Tom and others walking across this cane bridge tomorrow morning as they commence their climb up to Alola Village. The plan tomorrow is to reach Isurava.

This group it seems have bolted ahead and did not stop at the Isurava Memorial as per the previous plan to meet up with John Prossor and his group of trekkers.

Ernst their guide phoned this morning but at the time I was on another sat phone and could not take his call. After I hung up I tried to call Ernst back but could not contact him as he had obviously switched off and moved on.

Another of our treks walking in the opposite direction passed them this morning and informed me they were all doing ok.

So at this stage I have no idea where they intend to pull up. By now they should have reached Isurava Village but depending on the time may have decided to push on to Deniki to give them a good start in the morning.

Well done to Tom as looks like him and the others will walk off the track as planned tomorrow in Kokoda. What a gutsy effort!

We have found Tom, Clive, Tim & Rick – they have continued to stay ahead of the John Prossor group coming up the rear. The grapevine informs us, they have stopped at Deniki. Also a message has filtered through that they plan on waiting for the other group at Hoi Village.

Congratulations does not quite fit what Tom Quick has just done. I mean here is a stoke victim who has just walked the Kokoda Trail. How can anyone describe this fully as its an awesome effort from a gutsy young man to achieve a goal he set himself and has now completed.

Well done Tom from all of us here at Kokoda Trekking. To Clive your dad, how proud he must be of you right now. To Rick and Tim and all our porters and guide, well done.

At the moment as I type this, trekkers are at our base in Kokoda enjoying some relaxation and some pizza's.
