MemberOn the 18th July trekkers started arriving in Port Moresby along with their guide Patiare (Pat) Vainerere. After being met at the airport and booking in for the night at their accommodation, they decided they would go to the Royal Papua Yacht Club for their evening meal.
This morning they headed down to the airport around 7:30am to book in for their flight to Kokoda. Due to bad weather they had to wait inside the departure lounge for 2 hours before heading to Kokoda by chartered aircraft.
After arriving in Kokoda, morning tea was had by all before their trek commenced mid morning.
I heard from Pat around 4:30 that they were camped at Deniki for the night. He said everyone is doing well. Trekkers on this trek are made up as follows:
[*]Pat Vainerere – Guide
[*]Anthony Smith
[*]Steven Malseed
[*]Steve Malone
[*]Alice Kempe
[*]Dawn Love
[*]Julie Ferguson
[*]Emma Charters

MemberReceived a sat phone all from Pat late this afternoon saying they were all ok and that they had stopped for the night at Alola Village.
A highlight of the day was when they stopped at Isurava Memorial before moving on to their final destination of Alola Village.
The plan for tomorrow is to reach the area referred to as 'Dump 1'.
Julie must be fired up as Pat said she expressed interest to keep walking but a decision was made to stop where they were at Alola.

MemberLast night was spent at Templeton's Crossing due to heavy rain in the area which forced them to go slower than they would have liked.
Today will be a big one for everyone as they push on up the track towards Efogi I or II for the night.
Everyone continues to do well.

MemberTrekkers have now reached the half way point of Efogi so more than likely feeling pretty proud of themselves as they settle in for the night.
Its a pretty wet track on the Kokoda side so they have already experienced walking in the wet and the mud.

MemberPat phoned earlier today from Brigade Hill as the group was moving along the track. The plan today was to push up along the track until they reached Agulogo campsite area. He said that trekkers are all enjoying themselves even the ones carrying their own backpacks.

MemberI received a phone call from Pat at Naoro Village area earlier today. He said everything was ok and that they all continued to enjoy their trek. The were heading today to Ioraiwba Village to spend their second last night on the track.
Julie is still toughing it out a bit more than the others but is hanging in there and will finish her trek.

MemberTrekkers are spending their last night on the track at 'Goodwater'. Tomorrow they plan on an early start around 6am to head down to Goldie River then up their last climb to Owers.
Pat advised me that they were all looking forward to their last night on the track and the end to their successful trek.
Picture them tomorrow as they cross over Goldie River in anticipation of walking through the archway at the top of the final climb.

MemberCongratulations everyone from all of us here at Kokoda Trekking, well done. For everyone back home, trekkers walked off the track as planned this morning and made their way down the mountain to Bomana War Cemetery before heading to our base in Boroko. No doubt some of them are now at the airport waiting for their flight back home. Pat will be returning via Cairns so has a later flight. No doubt they are all feeling pretty proud of themselves right now.
