Boss Meri
MemberA group of 5 headed out to Owers' Corner for a fast 4 night 5 day trek. Trekkers in this group include :
-
[*]Rodney Graham
[*]Jordan Rixon
[*]Simon Tucker
[*]John Evans
[*]Peter PreisigJohn Evans arrived this morning on a flight from Cairns. Rodney and Jordan joined us after flying in earlier than the others and doing some fishing at Galley Reach. They had a flat tyre on the way to meeting me at the airport which panicked them a little but in the end they were there before Simon and Peter came out from customs.
When all (5) turned up, we began our drive out to Bomana War Cemetery and then up to the drop off point at Owers' Corner.

MemberAt Owers' Corner everyone prepared to move off from Owers' Corner as quickly as possible as heavy rain was closing in and the guys were eager to get started before getting drenched:

MemberThe Guide for this trek is The CHAMP, Brendan Buka. Brendan also holds the track direction in both directions. Owers' Cnr to Kokoda in 16:34. Kokoda to Owers' 17:20
Brendan has been asking to be upgraded for quite awhile now as he feels he has done his dues and is eager to step up. No-one knows the track better than Brendan as it seems he can fly over it to do the time he does in each race he enters.
Brendan is a humble guy and is taking this trek seriously as he wants to get all his trekkers to Kokoda and will set a pace for them to work to.
This is why he wanted them to sleep tonight at Goldie River so they would have an early start tomorrow morning.
His assistant is Dudley Bubura, a guide in his own right.

MemberUnfortunately for Peter Preisig, he has been forced to turn back due to a stomach problem he had several years ago that returned to haunt him on this trek. Peter turned back from the other side of Imita Ridge and spent the night at Goodwater along with our trek 875 Ernst Jinga and his group. Two guys from Owers' Corner were sent in yesterday to help him walk off the track this morning. As I write this, Peter is on his way back into town with Russell Eroro and should be at our base any time now.
As for the others, they are today heading up Maguli Range towards Naoro Village. The plan is to pass through Naoro and head on to Menari where they will spend the night.
A big big day for this group as just walking up Maguli Range is hard enough, but hey they picked this tough 4 night 5 day trek so they must know they have some tough long days ahead of them. No doubt today they will think of their guide Brendan Buka who in our Kokoda Challenge Race left Owers' Corner at 7am and was in Naoro at 10:50am.

MemberTrekkers have walked off the track yesterday and were flown back to Port Moresby today, Sunday. During the time they were on the track our forum was updated to a new version so my apology for not being able to post many updates. Our facebook page however was updated so trust you were still able to follow their progress.
Thanks guys for choosing to trek with us. You all put yourselves on a tough trek but you come through and showed it can be done. Well done from all of us here at Kokoda Trekking.

MemberCongratulations Brendan on your first Trek as a Guide and I have no doubt that it was a success. From last time I know that you would have an over-riding concern for the welfare of your Trek Members. Let me know how you went.
Look forward to receiving something via Gail in the near future, as it is an item that you will need in every day life and more essentially when you are leading Treks.
Lara & Grant send their warm regards as well.
Best wishes
Waza
Please say hello to Jimmy and I hope you can take him as a Porter on your next trip.
