I met our trekkers yesterday when I arrived at Brisbane International airport as we were all travelling on the same flight to Papua New Guinea. Holly sounded a little apprehensive but excited at the same time. Daniel looked pretty relaxed in his thongs and carrying his boots just in case his backpack failed to turn up in Port Moresby. (Wise move)

This morning when we arrived at Sogeri Lodge Holly and Daniel were tucking into a big breakfast probably knowing there would not be any bacon and eggs on the track. Later as we were about to leave Sogeri Lodge, they both looked really happy and ready to take on track. By co-incidence they are both in the medical field of employment so should have something in common to talk about whilst trudging up and down mountains and in campsites. After the trek, Holly is heading back to England.

Below is a photograph taken at Sogeri Lodge around 8am this morning. Trekkers are:

    • Holly Moore from the UK
    • Daniel Malone from Victoria who was recommended to walk with us by a couple of our very first trekkers who we remember well.

Now do they look like happy trekkers or what?

On the way out to Owers' Corner we stopped at McDonald's Corner and had the opportunity to take some more photographs:

At Owers' Corner Daniel requested a photograph with Russell Eroro as his friend walked with Rusty many years ago and recommended to him that he choose us to walk with.

Some photographs were then taken under the archway before trekkers moved off down to Goldie River.

The guide for this trek is Ernst Jinga from Kokoda. Ernst just completed a first aid course in Kokoda last week and was excited when he found out on this trek he has a nurse and a chiropractor.

Ernst Jinga called up a short time ago from Maguli Range to say they spent last night at Ofi Creek and today were heading for Agulogo to spend the night.

Trekkers and porters are all ok and enjoying their trek.

Trekkers have now reached the half way point of Efogi where they will relax before heading off tomorrow to 1900/Myola Junction. Tonight they should be enjoying their first night on a mattress since they left Sogeri Lodge for their trek.

We have not heard from the track today as its been raining quite heavily all day and they may have found it hard to get a signal out. Based on what we discussed prior to the trek commencing, the group should be at 1900/Myola Junction tonight.

Heard from Ernst this morning saying they slept last night at Isurava Memorial area and today were about to head off to Hoi for the night.

Everyone continues to do well. Seems Holly has had a few problems with her boots and now has them taped up but is still doing well.

Yesterday they walked from Templeton's I to Isurava so a big day.

I spoke to Daniel and he said it was a bit tougher than he expected but he sounded very happy!

Congratulations to Trek 800 as they walked off the track earlier today and are presently relaxing at Orohaven. Tomorrow morning they will fly back into Port Moresby and head out to Loloata Dive Resort. Well done everyone!
