A group of 5 adult students arrived today for a lengthy walk across the track taking in all the sights. They arrived off the flight from Australia and basically within a short time were on board the Air Niugini flight to Popondetta where they were picked up by Russell Eroro in a hire vehicle and driven up to Kokoda. Tonight they are staying at our base in Kokoda, Orohaven Kokoda Retreat.

I have just finished speaking with Wayne Urina Tihimi one of their guides who said they had tucked into quite a few pizza's and were heading off to bed, this was at 8pm tonight. Trekkers on this trek are:

    • Jessica Thomas
    • Callum Fox
    • Peter Collette
    • Fransesca Thompson
    • Thomas Breaden

I took the photograph below as they were booking in for their flight to Popondetta. This trek will be one of our longest on record as the plan is as follows:

    Trek Itinerary:

Day 1: 5th May – You will be met at Jackson's airport and taken to the domestic airport where you will book in for your flight to Popondetta. At Girua airport you will be met by Russell Eroro (Kokoda Trekking) and driven up to Kokoda where you will overnight as our guests at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat. At Orohaven you will be introduced to your guide Kingsley Boropi and Wayne Urina Tihimi and Jenen Barai who will accompany you on the track.
Day 2: 6th May – Today you will commence your walk up to Isurava Village where you will spend the night. Before you commence however, you will have time to take a walk around the Kokoda Station and have your photographs taken under the archway near the Kokoda Hospital before you hit the track.
Day 3: 7th May – This morning you will begin a short walk from Isurava Village to Isurava Memorial area where you will stop for morning tea. The monument is the highlight of your walk so you might like to spend some time here. Later, you will then continue your walk to Alola where you will leave the track and head for Abuari village where you will overnight.
Day 4: 8th May – Today you will follow the Japs Track to Eora Creek and continue your walk up to Templeton's 1
Day 5: 9th May – this morning you will begin your climb to the highest point on the track, Mt Bellamy and then head off the track into Myola Lakes area
Day 6: 10th May – Today will see you pass through the Village of Naduri where you can meet Ovoru Indiki, one of the few surviving 'Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels'. Later in the day you will commence your climb up to Kagi Village where you will spend the night.
Day 7: 11th May – This morning you will walk down to Efogi Village.
Day 8: 12th May – Today is a rest day, put your feet up and just spend a day doing absolutely nothing in Efogi except, eating, sleeping and meeting the locals.
Day 9: 13th May – Today you will pass through Manari and climb up to Brigade Hill and down to Agulogo where you will spend the night.
Day 10: 14th May – Today you will walk through the village of Naoro and head down to Ofi Creek to spend the night.
Day 11: – 15th May – From Ofi Creek, you will walk to Ua'Ule Creek and camp next to the river.
Day 12: – 16th May – Today you will trek from Ua'Ule Creek to Goldie River where you will have a chance to clean your boots and gear before walking off the track the next day at Owers' Corner.
Day 13: – 17th May – This morning you will climb up the hill to Owers' Corner and walk under the archway and celebrate your successful trek. Our vehicle will pick you up and return you all to Port Moresby.

Good luck to Francesca, Jessica, Callum, Pete & Thomas

We met on Saturday at the Airport, just after you arrived from Aus and before you departed for Popondetta, meant to advise you to have some walking poles cut for you for your trip, especially with the wet conditions, but I'm sure you will get them after a couple of days on the Track.

Please let me know how you go when you return.

    Best regards

    Waza

Trek 879 as planned have reached Abuari Village where the 2/16th Battalion and the 53rd Battalion set positions to stop the Japanese advance. Tomorrow they will walk towards Eora Creek but not too sure where they will overnight at this stage.

    Hello Boss Meri,
We have just found this website on the Kokoda Trail, and seen your posts and photos of the ADFA group. Our son Thomas Breaden is in the group so it was good to finally get some news of their trip! Say hi to everyone in the group from us.
regards, John & Janice Breaden, Hobart, Tasmania.

Update 17th May: My son Shane and a guy who works for me by the name of Raymond left the house around 6:30am to head up to Owers' Corner to pick up the trekkers who spent last night at Owers' Corner having walked off the track yesterday. They apparently asked for two cartons of beer which were ordered from Sogeri so no doubt last night celebrated with our 3 boys the end of their two weeks on the Kokoda Trail. On the way back down off the mountain they will stop at Bomana War Cemetery before arriving in Port Moresby. I believe two are staying here for another night and the other three fly back to Australia later today. Will post photographs later on today when the camera arrives back in from the track. Try to picture them as they would have walked up the last hill yesterday and under the archway at Owers' Corner.
