MemberThis trek had a different beginning to most treks as two guys flew over to Popondetta on the 1st October to spend some time at Sanananda, Gona and Buna before walking the Kokoda Track. During to course of the day yesterday they were driven up to Kokoda where they spent the night at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat.
This morning they were up bright and early for a 6:30am start and together with our Kokoda Trekking staff commenced their walk towards Isurava Village where they are spending the night.
The two trekkers are as follows:
- Jason Cooke
- John Liburti
I spoke with Jason earlier tonight and he said they are doing ok but that they would like to finish on the 12th October instead of the 11th October as per the original date on the trekking schedule. I explained if they wanted to do this, we would walk food into them for the last night and that all was ok to do this should they choose that option.
Unfortunately as they commenced their trek at the other end, ie KOKODA, I do not have any photographs to share with you. This morning they would have passed through the arches below as they commenced their walk.
The archway was built by the Kokoda Memorial Foundation. In the photograph below represents our first group to finish under the archway.
The plaque is just one of many placed on the archway.

MemberTrekkers have now reached the half way point of Efogi where they are spending the night. Apparently they are all doing well according to our other trek walking in the opposite direction who passed them earlier today.

MemberTrekkers are spending tonight at Nauro Village but will need to slow themselves down if they want to come off the track on the 12th October as its not too far now and they will have completed their trek.

MemberTrekkers are on the move heading for the finish line according to Eric who phoned in today. At the time he was not too sure where they would stop the night but said the plan was to come out on the 12th not the 11th as previously planned.

MemberI left Port Moresby this morning around 6:30am to drive up to Owers' Corner to welcome back our two trekkers and staff.
As I drove down to the archway I could see both trekkers standing under the archway having their photographs taken. As I had my camera with me, quickly some shots were taken which I will share with you now.
