MemberToday we met with our latest trekker Joshua Mario who flew in from Brisbane to walk the track to celebrate his 21st birthday! Wow, this is a first. We have had one guy whose mother suggested a trek for a 21st birthday present but for Joshua no-one but himself had the desire to walk the track.
On the way up to Sogeri, we stopped off at Bomana War Cemetery.

MemberAfter the drive up the mountain to Sogeri we talked about him commencing his walk today instead of tomorrow and spending the night at Goldie River and he jumped at the chance. The main reason is so that he can catch our charter flight back into Port Moresby on the 13th August.
So instead of being driven out around 7:30am tomorrow morning he will have been up at 6am and already well on his way up the mountain heading towards Ua'Ule Creek and tomorrow may even reach Ofi Creek to spend the night.
He appeared really excited and optimistic and ready to GO!
At McDonald's corner we took the opportunity to snap him again.

MemberThe guide for this trek is Robert Kaiva who hails from Kokoda and who is commonly referred to as Robert the chain saw operator as he has been trained in the use of chain saws.

MemberRobert called in today from Maguli Range to say they were all ok and that the first night as planned they slept at Goldie River. Last night was at Ofi Creek and today they were heading for Agulogo campsite. Tomorrow they hope to reach the half way point of Efogi. Robert added that Joshua is doing ok carrying his pack!

Member10th August. Today this group is heading for the half way point of Efogi. If Robert feels it is too late or Joshua is struggling he will make it shorter and stop at Menari.
11th August. They have passed the half way point and are now heading for Templeton's.
12th August. They should be heading for Isurava
Congratulations to Joshua who has now successfully completed his Kokoda trek. Joshua walked off the track in Kokoda this afternoon. WELL DONE Joshua!
