This morning we were up bright and early in preparation for our trek heading out today from Owers' Corner. Our staff cooked a huge breakfast for themselves for the day that awaits them. Tarina their guide has been in Port Moresby these past few weeks working on a small house we are presently renovating. One of the food porters joked with him that he has put on weight so life in the big smoke but be ok.

So this morning Tarina left Owers' Corner hoping his extra weight would not be a problem as he takes on another walk across the Kokoda trail with two American's and one guy from England. Would you believe all THREE are doctors! So no problems on this trek I feel as they all looked well prepared although one guy hoped he did not have any problems with his kness.

    Trekkers are as follows:

    1. Seth Wright
    2. John Proctor
    3. Nick Abbott

We made good time this morning as everyone was more then eager to commence their trek. Last night we informed the group that we would pick them up at 7:30 from Sogeri Lodge. This was then followed by approximately a 45 minute drive out to Owers' Corner the drop off point from this end of the trail.

Before long, they were all posing for photographs under the archway at Owers' Corner. In this photograph is Nick Abbott from England.

How could we let them take off down their first descent without a photograph with their guide and food porters, Tom Hango (who knows he has people from the US with him so is now calling himself 'Tom Hanks') and Jeffrey Boropi.

Tom is also famous for winning one of our races from Owers' to Kokoda in a time of a little over 19 hours. This is the 4th fastest time ever which is something he is very proud of. This is his first trek for the season so who knows Tom may do it tough!

The guide for this trek is Tarina Bore who hails from Kokoda. He can be seen here addressing the trekkers shortly before they began their walk:

It was soon time to bid our farewell to Trek 734 as they took off down to the first turn and then out of sight. One things for sure with three doctors on this trek the boys are in good company should one of them become sick or hurt themselves:

Trekkers have reached Ua'Ule Creek where they are spending the night. John has asked for a personal porter so just now have got off the phone organising one of our very first employees, Eric Uwea from here at Sogeri to drive to Owers' Corner first light tomorrow morning. He will then walk in and meet up with John and take over his pack.

In fact Eric walked alongside myself and my friend Bev Howell several years ago. The plan was to drive to his village and pick him up in the morning but the phone call just now said I am in a bus and will be at your gate so you do not have to look for me! Wow, I think he is very keen for this walk. Earlier today he informed me he is now married with a baby daughter so this could be the incentive but whatever the reason I know he is keen to catch up with this group and help out wherever possible.

Trekkers have now reached Naoro Village where they are spending the night. Everyone is doing just fine. Eric caught the group at Ioribaiwa which is a short climb up from Ua'Ule Creek.

    Hi Gail,

Well done to the three doctors! Thank you again for a great trip, have recommended your company to all, including the fabulous Wallace-hopefully will encourage a few more walkers! Now trying to talk friends into some volunteer work on the track. I have delivered a new pair of boots for Shane to transport back tomorrow for young Jeffery Boropi as I promised. Bigger size so hopefully no blisters lol. My boys have already spoken on the phone to their new bro Jenen-hopefully a trip to Aus this year.

Thanks again for everything, Dianne and family.

My apologies for no updates as my computer stopped working and I have not been able to access the internet. I am typing this on a borrowed computer until mine is up and running again.

Trekkers spent last night at Isurava and proudly walked off the track today into Kokoda. Tomorrow they will be flown back to Port Moresby.

Congratulations to all 3 doctors for successfully completing their trek. WELL DONE!
