MemberWe met up with this group of trekkers when they flew in to Port Moresby airport and were driven up to Sogeri Lodge where they stayed the night. The following morning they were driven down to Bomana War Cemetery and on to the Australian High Commission for the annual 'Gunfire' breakfast. Later in the morning we all drove back up the mountain to Sogeri Lodge where they along with our guide and porters prepared to move out on to the Kokoda Track.
We aimed for a midday start from Sogeri and we were pretty much on target as we drove off heading for the road that would lead us to Owers' Corner. On the way we stopped off at McDonald's Corner where a photograph was taken of the group as they posed beside 'Fred' – a tribute to the 39th!

MemberMy apology for the slow updates but I am presently in the Sogeri area and the speed of the internet is beyond description and almost puts me to sleep whist I wait for the page to change.
Trekkers spent the first night at a campsite called 'Goodwater'. Their second night on the track was spent at Ofi Creek and last night they were at Agulogo.
Today they will walk into the half way point of Efogi.
I just got off the phone after talking with Wallace Lemeki and he says this feels like a 'fast trek' not a slower one as the trekkers are really fit and going quite strong. Sounds like he has a task on his hands to slow them down otherwise they will end up in Kokoda earlier then they are planned to finish.
He said they were all enjoying their trek and trekkers appeared really happy.

MemberTrekkers in this group are very fast according to their guide Wallace Lemeki and are already at Eora Creek ahead of their schedule. As a result they want to walk off the track tomorrow Saturday instead of Sunday as per the original plan.
Wallace said each day they are in their respective campsites sometimes as early as 1pm so they could have easily taken on a faster trek! He assured me they are all having fun and enjoying their time together out on the Kokoda Track.

MemberAs I type this, trekkers are on their way to Popondetta to catch their flight back into Port Moresby. Message just read from Kristen said that Collingwood won so Andrew should be happy when he hears the news today!
