MemberMy fiance & I are planning to do the trek next year. We currently use a double dome swag whenever we go camping. Is there any reason this wouldn't be suitable on Kokoda?

MemberHow heavy are they? From the look of the one I googled they have a mattress and are made of canvas. Dont forget someone has to carry the thing.

MemberDouble dome swag sounds way too cumbersome for Kokoda. Think light or ultra light weight tent, good quality waterproofed material, well seamed. You should look for something with a weight no greater than 2.5 kg all up including fly cover and pegs.

MemberThanks guys. I was kinda thinking the same thing but hoping we could get away with it.
Off to the shops I go.

MemberI had a 3 man dome, myself and my dad shared. It was just a cheapo thing (Kmart jobby) and ideal as it was new and hadn't had a chance to deteriorate.
About half of the time we got lucky and access to 'huts'. We'd erect the inner part only to keep out mossies – perfect.

MemberWe only spent 1 night in our tents, the rest in huts. So a separate sleeping mate would be make life easier.

MemberHi
All good comments from experience.
I used a $14.95 2 man tent from Go-Lo, used it 4 times and gave it to Maurice my Porter at Owers. It wasn't waterproof but then it didn't rain of a night and I always slung a $4 tarp from Super Cheap Auto across the tent, held up by 2 poles at either end and one cross piece of timber, which left a good ventilation area to hang wet socks and undies to dry overnight
regards
Waza
