This morning we said goodbye to another group of trekkers heading out from Owers' Corner. Trekkers are made up as follows:
- Andrew Emerson
- Sally Ingram
- Garry Snowden
Their guide is my son Shane Thomas along with Wallace Lemeki as the assistant guide.
Andrew Emerson is back for the third time and this time he brought with him his daughter Sally Ingram to walk for the first time. Garry walked with our boys once before as well. Andrew and Sally requested some of our staff to walk again with them such as Wallace Lemeki, Brendan Buka (the trek champion) and Eddie Idau.
Andrew and Sally came in a day ahead of Garry and got to drive around with Shane and ended up at the Yacht Club. Mid afternoon Garry Snowden arrived from Australia and along with Andrew & Sally they drove to Bomana War Cemetery and later the Wildlife Sanctuary on the outskirts of Port Moresby.

P8220056__800x600_.JPGLast night the trekkers spent the night at Sogeri Lodge and this morning were picked up and driven to Owers' Corner the drop off point for their trek. Trekkers commenced their walk around 8am this morning and the destination was Ua'Ule Creek.

P1060026__640x480_.JPGUpdate 24th August: We heard from the track today that last night was in fact spent at Ua'Ule Creek. This morning they were on the move and phoned in from Uberi. Later in the day we received another phone call from Maguli Range to say everything was ok and that they were heading to Nauro Village where they planned to spend the night.

D6_NAURO_VIEW2__Small___Small_.JPGUpdate 25th August: Last night the group were at Trumpet. Today, they called in from Efogi the half way point and according to Shane everyone is doing really well.

IMGP4043__Small_.JPGUpdate 26th August: Trekkers have now reached 1900/Myola Junction. Everything continues to go ahead as planned and all are still going strong.

IMGP1891__50____640x480___640x480_.JPGUpdate 27th August: Trekkers have now reached Eora Creek where they have stopped to spend the night. They will no doubt sleep listening to the sound of the roaring creek nearby. All trekkers continue to enjoy their trek.

IMG_1341__Small_.jpgUpdate 28th August: Shane called up earlier this morning to say they were all doing ok and that they were at Deniki. I am not too sure where they ended up stopping as their goal was to head to Hoi Village. Sometime tomorrow morning they will walk off the track into Kokoda Station where they will overnight at our base, Orohaven Kokoda Retreat.
Update 29th August: As mentioned by Shane, trekkers walked off the track on the 29th August. I believe they were in no hurry and wanted to enjoy being in the bush for another night rather then to walk off the track a day ahead of schedule like the other group who headed off the same day.

IMGP2488__640x480_.JPGUpdate 30th August: Have just walked in after having met up with both treks who arrived in Port Moresby via a flight from Popondetta earlier this morning. Sally mentioned she WILL BE BACK! Andrew, her father has walked a couple of times but still seems pumped up by the experience. We sat poolside and listened to their stories about the adventure both on the track, in Kokoda at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat and the drive to Popondetta.
I will post a photograph taken on the track by another trekker in a separate group as Shane their guide is still in Kokoda and has held onto the memory card.

Kokoda_Trekking_logo.jpgWow, what an adventure! Trekking Kokoda was truly an amazing experience and I think it will be some time before I can shake it from my system. I am currently nutting out how quickly I can save to come back and do it all again-once is just not enough!
Thank you to Kokoda Trekking for making it possible for myself and my dad to do this together. We had a fantastic time and it was made even more enjoyable by the company of Garry who is an absolute wealth of knowledge and was able to add to the information that dad already had-thank you Garry for sharing poppies with us and well as your company and wisdom.
A huge thank you to all The Boys also, they made my trek the 'holiday' of a lifetime. Having meals prepared and cooked for me for the week was such a treat and strange as it may seem, this was one of my highlights. Being a busy mum of three children means nearly 'never' having a day/night off meal creating! I wish all the Boys well in all adventures to come.
I am now home after 2 weeks on the Gold Coast with my husband and children but I think PNG and the Kokoda track will be stuck in my system for a long time to come!
