MemberWe have a licensed premises on the property and many a trekker have celebrated the end of a trek at Orohaven with a cold beer. One rule however, is that guides and porters must leave the property by 6pm as we respect the community and do not want any drunks heading home causing problems for us and other neighbours.
It is also for the safety of trekkers that this rule is in place and for anyone staying at the property we trust you respect our wishes.
Orohaven Kokoda Retreat whilst our base in Kokoda, operates under its own banner with its own staff and is open to all trekking companies who may wish to stay there.
Whilst not a five star hotel, it is clean and tidy with a shower and flushing toilet. We also have a creek nearby for anyone who prefers to have their last dip in a stream before heading home.

MemberWe have three huts that can be hired which can cater for up to 15 people in each hut. These huts have stretcher beds or mattresses on the floor.

MemberAnother hut has a double bed and if trekking as a family plenty of room to put in some stretcher beds. It also has a hammock in the hut.

MemberAll trekking companies, please note: with the exception of when our own treks are staying at Orohaven, all uniforms worn on the premises are Orohaven Kokoda Retreat t/shirts, not Kokoda Trekking advertising. Our truck has had all advertising material associated with Kokoda Trekking removed for the same reason.
As a result if you hire our vehicle or stay in our premises, you are giving your own clients the best service possible in or out of Kokoda.
Orohaven Kokoda Retreat is situated right on the airstrip itself, so no last minute rush to catch a flight if by charter from Kokoda. You can relax, enjoy your sleep, wake up, eat breakfast and wait for your flight.
For smaller groups which seems to be the norm this year in 2010, it makes more business sense to fly them in or out of Guria airport on the RPT service and drive up or down from Popondetta.

MemberThere are three creeks within close walking distance of our guesthouse area. Depending on what you are looking for, a stream so the water washes over you whilst you enjoy a beer on a rock or if you want to go to deeper waters.

MemberWe also grow our own chickens at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat. A recent trekker asked what the sign 'live chicken' meant. I answered, you can pick out your chicken, it can be killed, plucked and cooked whilst you wait for your dinner, you can't get much fresher than that!
If you are from the city and think chickens come in frozen packages, this too is on offer in our freezers. Do not laugh, some people think of a live chicken as a kind of pet whereas a frozen one does not give them a guilt complex. Otherwise, choose to eat pizza – we have been told they taste better then the hotels in Port Moresby.

When we moved to suburbia, I chose a pet chook for my personal pet. They make wonderful pets for children – I could never eat her – but was happy to and still happy to eat her relatives – as you are so totally right – a frozen chook does not give the same guilt complex as what a live chook would if I were to pick one out for my dinner
