Was stationed in Port Moresby with the Army from 72-74 and we attended the Dawn Service at Bomana where my uncle is interred and I would have to say that it is one of the most moving dawn services that I have attended.
If you can visualise the fog swirling around the graves, the smell of the flowers on the fence lines and then the Last Post coming from behind you in the still of the morning, has a tendency to make the hairs on the back of the neck stand up.

Shorty – wow. I get goosebumps just reading your post. When we had our dawn service at Brigade Hill, it was very eerie. You could almost sense and almost even see the glint of silver of the Japanese bayonets hiding amongst the undergrowth. It was very awe inspiring too – knowing that hundreds upon hundreds of soldiers on both sides relentlessly pounded the ground with their boots right where I was standing.

I can only imagine the dawn service at Bomana. It would be like all those Aussie Diggers, giving the 'thank-you' nod with their head. Seeing their boylike grins and laughing at jokes with mates. Their arms around each other singing away. Then seeing them one by one – each sacrificing themselves for our freedom as the fog and the mist swirls around their graves. Sombering thought, isn't it.

When we were at Bomana it was very misty, it kinda suits the place.
