Boss Meri
MemberWe at Kokoda Trekking would like to welcome to PNG two trekkers from MUSCAT, OMAN. Yes, our very first trekkers from Oman. In case you are wondering reading this just where this country is located – I too had to do a search on Google so will post it here:
Muscat is located in northeast Oman, at 24°00′N 57°00′E. The Tropic of Cancer passes south of the area. It is bordered to its west by the plains of the Al Batinah Region and to its east by Ash Sharqiyah Region. The interior plains of the Ad Dakhiliyah Region border Muscat to the south, while the Gulf of Oman forms the northern and western periphery of the city. The water along to coast of Muscat runs deep, forming two natural harbours, in Muttrah and Muscat. The Western Al Hajar Mountains run through the northern coastline of the city.

Trekkers are as follows: Ali hassan Sulaiman and his son Hussam Ali Hassan
Both father and son looked very excited today as they drove with me out of town on their adventure of walking the Kokoda Track. I was informed they had walked Mt Kilimanjaro to this was a good start to take on the Kokoda Trail.
We met last night and again this morning at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. By 6:30 we were in a car heading out to the start of their trek at Owers' Corner. In the same car were trekkers walking on trek 647 by the name of Tim MacDonald and Rahman Labelak.

MemberOn the way to the drop off point we stopped off at Sogeri Monument area. Trekkers were happy to stand next to the signpost before we headed out to Owers' Corner on the dirt road which has been recently graded.

MemberJust before they departed I took a couple more photographs: In one of the photographs Ramsey is pointing out to Ali the direction where they were heading today which was to walk from Owers' Corner to Ioribaiwa Village. In his right hand Lenny is carrying an axe.

MemberBad luck for these two trekkers as this morning Hussam woke up with a sore knee. As the day progressed it got worse and his knee started to swell. Around midday a decision was made by Ali his father to call for a chopper.
At 3:30pm the helicopter flew to Nauro Village and picked them up.
Tonight they are at Loloata Dive Resort on the outskirts of Port Moresby while they consider what their future plans are. Perhaps they will travel to some other area in Papua New Guinea or fly out of the country.
We at Kokoda Trekking are sorry they both did not get to complete their trek. They said it was harder then the previous trek they had been on in Africa.
Whatever they decide, we wish them well and trust they will enjoy themselves until they return back home.

MemberOn behalf of Kokoda Trekking we would like to thanks Ali and his son, for coming all the way to Papua New Guinea to walk the Kokoda Trail. We trust you enjoy the rest of your stay in PNG and who knows perhaps you might like to take on the challenge again some day. To enjoy it more, a 9 day trek is recommended as you both took on the 'fast' trek which is obviously much harder.
kind regards
