MemberTrek 555 headed out to Owers' Corner this morning consisting of a father and his two sons:
- Barrie Elvish
- Simon Elvish
- Kris Elvish
I have heard from Russell who drove them out that the road was VERY bad and that it was hard to get out of 2nd gear so a very slow drive today. Lets hope someone grades the road in the not too distant future.
However, the Prado was able to reach right down to Owers' Corner so our trekkers should have been quite happy not to have to get out earlier and start their walk.

Member10th April: Heard from the track last night that trekkers reached Ua'Ule Creek where they spent last night. Today they are going to try and reach Agulogo. All three are doing quite well but Simon is hurting a little more than his brother and father.

Member11th April: We heard today that trekkers were on the move and that they crossed paths with our other group heading in the opposite direction around Menari area where they planned on having lunch before heading to Efogi where they will spend the night.
We were assured that everyone was ok and trekking well so no worries it seems at this point of the trek which is almost to the half way point.
Today they would have walked up Brigade Hill which is an emotional time for most trekkers due to the heavy loss of lives in this area.

Member12th April: Trekkers spent last night as planned at Efogi and this morning headed off towards Templeton's Crossing I. However, we later heard they passed by Templeton's I and are now at Templeton's II where they will spend the night.

MemberUpdate 13th April: Trekkers have now reached Isurava Village and are still doing well. Tomorrow they will walk out in Kokoda having successfully completed their 6 day trek.
Today they would have turned round the corner from Alola to see the monument area at Isurava which is quite a sight.
Kingsley sounded really excited today to know he was on his way home and that all his trekkers remain ok.

Member14th April: Trekkers walked out into Kokoda around midday today. I spoke briefly to Barry and he seemed really happy with our KTL boys and asked for a bonus to be sent over to show his appreciation of their efforts in the way they looked after him and his two sons.
So Congratulations all round as three happy trekkers enjoy Kokoda hospitality at our Orohaven Kokoda Retreat tonight. Tomorrow they will fly back to Port Moresby on a chartered aircraft which should arrive around 9am.

Member15th April: We met up with Barry and his two sons today when they returned from Kokoda. Later in the morning we picked them up from the Gateway Hotel and drove them around a bit before dropping them off at the airport for their flight back to Australia.
They set themselves a pretty tough pace but appeared to do ok. Simon said he did it tougher than his brother or father as his shoes broke and he was forced to walk in his porters shoes. His porter then walked in a pair of thongs. However, this would not prove to big a problem for the porter as most of them would prefer to walk barefoot if given a chance as the majority walk around like this back in Kokoda.
We at Kokoda Trekking would like to say a big thank you to Barry for choosing to trek with us.
kind regards
Gail & the gang at Kokoda Trekking
