Boss Meri
MemberWe met up with our last group of trekkers for 2008 the other night at the Gateway and informed them we had to change their trek around and that they would be commencing from Kokoda instead of Owers' Corner. This did not seem to bother them as they looked forward to catching their flight to Kokoda the following morning.
It was decided that the group of trekkers staying at the Shady Rest Hotel would be collected at 6:30am and the other two staying at the Gateway at 7am.
The group at Shady Rest must have slept in as I received a phone call from Russell asking for their names so he could check at the reception desk due to them being nowhere to be found. A quick phone call to their rooms and before long they were headed off to the airport.
Another vehicle picked up a father and son combination from the Gateway and all trekkers booked into their Tropic Air flight to Kokoda.
On arrival in Kokoda they met up with seven trekkers who had just finished their trek along with their guide and porters.
The photographs below were taken shortly before they departed for Kokoda.

MemberTrekkers on this trek are made up as follows:
- Peter Walsh
- Marc Sorensen
- Travis Hooper
- Andrew King
- Daniel Eifermann
- Peter Gurry
- Michael Gurry
After they touched down in Kokoda they were taken to our camp in Kokoda and would have spent the day going up to the station and seeing the monument area; swimming a creek and relaxing.

MemberThis morning they would have been up bright and early to commence their walk up to Isurava Village.
The first village they would have come to would have been Kovelo followed by Deneki before a tough climb up to Isurava.

MemberHi Boss Meri,
Could you please tell my brother Daniel that our Grandfather fought as Sergeant, 2/27 Battalion, 21st Brigade 7th AIF. He was mainly on Shaggy Ridge, and Mission Ridge and whilst retreating due to malaria met Brigadier Potts.
Thanks!

MemberUpdate 13th November: Earlier today we heard that the trekkers had reached Alola and were heading down to Eora Creek where they planned on spending the night.
Everyone was ok and doing fine it seems.

MemberUpdate 15th November: Trekkers have been down low at 1900 hundred last night and could not get word out to us. We have just heard from Wallace in Efogi that they have all reached the half way point and all continue to do well.
Tonight they will stay at Landy Noel's guesthouse in Efogi and tomorrow will move off towards Brigade Hill and will either stop for the night at Menari or move on to Agulogo.

MemberUpdate 17th November: We heard from Ernst this morning around 11am saying they were heading towards Nauro and will hopefully overnight at Ioribaiwa tonight depending on how they are going. If they do not think there is sufficient time to reach this village they will stop at Ofi Creek.
All trekkers are still doing ok

MemberUpdate 18th November: Trekkers have now reached Uberi commonly referred to locally as 'Goodwater' and are due to come up at Owers' Corner around 10am tomorrow.
Marc gave us a bit of a scare as he was feeling sick last night but appears to have gained his strength and will walk out with the group tomorrow which is great news. According to Daniel he was not feeling too good last night and they were getting some medicine into him.
When I spoke with Ernst he sounded really happy to be successfully getting his group to the end so they can feel what its like to walk through the arches at Owers' Corner and know they have achieved something truly special in their lives.
Road being kind to us, meaning not too wet, trekkers should be back in their hotel around 2pm tomorrow afternoon as we always stop at Bomana War Cemetery on the way back into town.
Tomorrow they will have to cross over Goldie River before the climb up to Owers'.

MemberUpdate 20th November: Sorry could not update yesterday as the internet was down.
Trekkers arrived back as planned and from all accounts had a fantastic time with our KTL boys out on the Kokoda Track.
We caught up with them at the Gateway Hotel and the Shady Rest and of course at Owers' Corner when we collected them after they had successfully completed their trek.
CONGRATULATIONS guys, well done from all of us here at Kokoda Trekking.
To the two guys who travelled to Rabaul, we hope the wedding went off well and that you enjoyed further PNG hospitality.
