pathfinder
MemberMaybe Boss Meri could explain to me why my trek report link has been removed? I have had great feedback from people who have trekked as well as people who are yet to trek.
Editors Note:
Pathfinder, as per an email sent to you by my son earlier today which I will post here:
We have removed your posts as you have been promoting another company which poses a conflict of interest to us. We believe in fair competition but this is our website and 'our trekking forum' and has no place for promotion of any other trekking company be it direct quote or links to your site where you promote them. Simple common sense!
The forum offers our trekkers and or future trekkers a medium to communicate about "Trekking". If a forum member promotes another competitor then we potentially loose business and for this reason we have removed those posts. We have not "deleted" you from the forum and welcome communication but please consider the comments I've made and be mindful of us as we too are running a business just like our competition.
If you feel that you cannot "comply" with our comments then we will be forced to remove your profile and any further posts.

So if you do not care what we or anyone associated with us has to say, why then should be tolerate such a posting on our website which mentions over and over again who you trekked with. ie you are bias towards one trekking company which is understandable but that does not mean we have to promote them through our website. I am 100% sure that the company you walked with would not allow such a posting by one of 'our trekkers' being put on ;their website; sending any potential client that logged on to their website direct to us.
As Fluppy mentioned below, its up to the individual to do their own research. So post if you may but I am surprised as to why you would wish to when the tone of your email states you wish to have nothing to do with us and it is after all our website not our fellow competitor's website.

MemberI managed to read your trek report yesterday before it was gone. It's a great read and I can't see any reason why it would have been removed. Maybe you should post it again here.

MemberSimple really – he mentioned another trekking company. I was fortunate enough and had the good sense to save the link to my favourites straight away
KTL are the people providing this forum for many of us to use. They are a source of invaluable information, advice and up to date info on how the current trekkers are going. Why would they want another company mentioned on their forum – when there could be a possibility that trekkers might choose another company other than KTL due to information posted about other companies on this forum/board.
Having said that, I think it is important for trekkers to do their homework. They should be informed on good things/not-so-good things about not just KTL but other companies too so they can make an informed decision on who to trek Kokoda with and what company is right for them.
It is also good feedback for the company/companies including KTL. If there was something not-so-good about KTL, then it would be good to mail Gail personally so that the situation/whatever can be revised, evaluated and improved for the next trek.
Most companies have their own websites, so people can visit those if they need to, but there are a lot of companies out there that I haven't heard of who deserve the recognition. Had pathfinder not mentioned the one he did, I would not have known about them – which is irrelevant at this point in time because I am not trekking with that company or KTL, but that is not the point.
It's a case of buyer beware really – do your research. Get feedback from people who have trekked with KTL. Get feedback from people who have trekked with other companies. Many people who have trekked with another company have said that if they could do it over, they'd definetly choose KTL. But that is them and this is you. Each to their own. Make up your own mind based on the research you have done. You only get out what you put in.
I have personally got a lot from being a member of this forum for nearly a year now and if Boss Meri doesn't want links posted, then that's the go – she's the Boss!
Apologies for the lengthy post and hope I haven't offended either side. :/
